Retrospective analysis on prospectively collected data. ⋯ For the matched analysis, in general, patients with and without PD had similar patient-reported outcomes and complication, readmission, and reoperation rates. These results demonstrate that a diagnosis of PD alone should not represent a major contraindication to elective spine surgery.

Retrospective cohort study. ⋯ In our cohort every third patient with VO caused by SA or ENST dies within 1 year. Our findings indicate that patients with VO caused by SA, concomitant IE and/or a high Charlson comorbidity index score may be at elevated risk for treatment failure. These findings can be used to individualize patient care and to direct clinical surveillance. This could include echocardiography evaluating for the presence of IE in patients with VO caused by gram-positive pathogens.

A retrospective review study. ⋯ Osteoporosis is a significant risk factor for instrumentation failure and need for revision surgery following arthrodesis for scoliosis correction. Furthermore, patients with osteoporosis have a significantly higher risk of intraoperative blood volume loss and postoperative thromboembolic events.
