Case-control study. ⋯ While infrequent, patient complaints against orthopedic spine surgeons are most related to access and availability. The rate of malpractice events varies widely between surgeons.

A retrospective study. ⋯ Among commercially insured patients who received outpatient spine surgery, the incidence of ED visits during the 90-day postoperative period was ~9%. Our results indicate opportunities for improved postoperative care planning after outpatient spinal surgery.

A prospective analysis. ⋯ Screw stimulation with threshold hunting algorithm has a distinct advantage over the time-consuming insulated pilot hole stimulation, allowing an uninterrupted flow of the surgery. The present findings have documented practical usefulness and reliability of CMAP monitoring using direct stimulation of the PPS assembled to uninsulated extender sleeve.

Rates of Loosening, Failure, and Revision of Iliac Fixation in Adult Deformity Surgery.
Retrospective cohort review of a prospective multicenter database. ⋯ Lumbopelvic fixation failure rates were high following ASD correction, and associated with lesser clinical improvements. S2AI screws were more likely to demonstrate loosening, but less commonly associated with rod fractures at the lumbopelvic region.

Retrospective analysis on prospectively collected data. ⋯ The incidence of spine trauma in elderly patients continues to increase. Previous publications described preexisting conditions that imply increased mortality, but ours is the first to develop a predictive calculator. Prospective research is planned to externally validate this model to better determine its predictive value and utility in the clinical setting.
