Randomized Controlled TrialTranscutaneous electrical nerve stimulation for pain relief after liposuction: a randomized controlled trial.
Liposuction is a common cosmetic surgical procedure, which requires analgesia for postoperative pain. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) has been used for postoperative pain relief; however, there is no evidence of its effectiveness in liposuction patients and this is the focus of this paper. ⋯ This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyThe Comparison of Infusion of Two Different Sedation Regimens with Propofol and Ketamine Combination During Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Anesthetic agents are often combined to enhance their therapeutic effects while minimizing adverse events. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of two different sedation regimens of ketamine and propofol combination via infusion on perioperative variables in patients who underwent plastic and reconstructive surgery. ⋯ We recommend the use of a 2:1 combination of propofol-ketamine, because it reduced the rescue propofol requirement and consequently produced lower cardiovascular and respiratory depression effects and also less postoperative pain.

LetterThe role of mental health professionals in gender reassignment surgeries: unjust discrimination or responsible care?
Recent literature has raised an important ethical concern relating to the way in which surgeons approach people with gender dysphoria (GD): it has been suggested that referring transsexual patients to mental assessment can constitute a form of unjust discrimination. The aim of this paper is to examine some of the ethical issues concerning the role of the mental health professional in gender reassignment surgeries (GRS). ⋯ This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Lidocaine-induced ASC apoptosis (tumescent vs. local anesthesia).
The purpose for the present study was to determine which anesthetic method, local anesthesia versus tumescent, is superior for liposuction in terms of adipose-derived stem cell (ASC) survival in lipoaspirate; which component, lidocaine versus lidocaine with epinephrine, in anesthetic solutions could affect ASC survival; and which mechanism, necrosis versus apoptosis, is involved in lidocaine-induced ASC death. ⋯ Tumescent anesthesia is the superior method for liposuction with respect to ASC preservation compared to local anesthesia. Lidocaine could cause significant ASC apoptosis.
