Otoplasty with Mustarde suture, cartilage rasping, and scratching.
Many techniques have been developed for the treatment of protruding ears. However, the best technique is one that is reproducible, simple, and versatile. Modern otoplasty techniques consist of two main surgical categories, cartilage sparing and cartilage cutting, along with many variations. ⋯ The authors use 4-0 braided white polyesther suture. For four patients, a secondary revision was performed for recurrence. The remaining patients were satisfied with their outcome.

Breast implants used for augmentation mammoplasty or breast reconstruction could rupture from various causes such as trauma or spontaneous failure. The objectives of this study were to investigate the relationships between the causes of implant rupture and the degree of capsular contracture, and then to evaluate the relative efficacies of specific signs on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) known to be beneficial for diagnosing the rupture. A retrospective review identified patients with prosthetic implant rupture or impending rupture treated by the senior author. ⋯ Breast implant rupture was correlated with the degree of capsular contracture in our study. Among the various specific MRI signs used in diagnosing the rupture, the linguine sign was reliable and had a high sensitivity and specificity, especially in cases of intracapsular rupture. On the other hand, the rat-tail and tear drop signs were nonspecific signs for diagnosing the rupture of breast implant.

Blepharoplasty and otoplasty: comparative sedation with remifentanil, propofol, and midazolam.
Three different methods of sedation or sedoanalgesia using remifentanil, Propofol, or midazolam to increase intra- and postoperative comfort and to reduce neuroendocrine stress in patients who had undergone typical ambulatory cosmetic surgery under local anesthesia were studied. A sample of 90 patients who underwent upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty to correct baggy eyelids or otoplasty to correct protruding ears was selected according to standard criteria for the study. Remifentanil provided the best tolerability profile and the most effective perioperative pain control among the substances studied, demonstrating it to be a valid drug for modern sedoanalgesia aimed at increasing the well-being of patients undergoing ambulatory cosmetic surgery.

Evaluation of cutaneous abdominal wall sensibility after abdominoplasty.
Changes in cutaneous sensibility are common after diverse plastic surgical procedures. Although prior studies examined aesthetic results, combined procedures, and new abdominoplasty techniques, few examined the effect of undermining on cutaneous sensibility. This study aimed to analyze and quantify cutaneous sensibility after classic abdominoplasty. ⋯ The results showed a decrease in the three types of sensibility. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference (p < 0.05) between the groups for all regions tested. The centermost regions of the abdominal wall presented the highest index of analgesia and thermal anesthesia, as well as higher cutaneous pressure thresholds.

Case ReportsRestoration of the gluteal fold by a deepithelialized skin flap: preliminary observations.
The gluteal fold represents an important aspect of the gluteal region. Destruction of this anatomic landmark as a consequence of trauma or tissue harvest can result in an aesthetically disturbing disfigurement. A technique for reconstruction of the gluteal fold and preliminary results are presented. ⋯ The authors present a simple and effective technique for reconstruction of the gluteal fold by a deepithelialized skin flap. The technique is applicable for patients who have lost their natural gluteal sulcus, with a resultant altered buttock shape, after trauma or other causes.
