Percutaneous osteoplasty (POP) as a technical extension of percutaneous vertebroplasty has been used as a treatment for osteolytic lesions in weight-bearing bones besides the vertebrae, and has demonstrated beneficial outcomes in terms of pain relief and functional improvement. However, its efficacy in non-weight-bearing bones is not well known. Herein, we present the case of a patient with an osteolytic lesion from multiple myeloma in the sternum, a non-weight-bearing bone, who obtained sustained pain relief and improvement of life quality after POP. These data suggest that POP may be an alternative treatment for osteolytic lesions in non-weight-bearing bones.

Modic changes in vertebral endplates: a comparison of MR imaging and multislice CT.
This paper aims to evaluate the presence of endplate sclerosis in different types of Modic changes and to assess the capability of MRI in detecting endplate sclerosis within these changes. ⋯ Endplate sclerosis exists in all types of Modic changes, especially in mixed Modic types, and not only in type III changes, as previously assumed. Endplate sclerosis was not detected in MRI, which may depend on the amount of mineralization of the bone marrow.

The aim of this study is to exploit the normal nature of peroneal nerve anatomy to identify constant magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) patterns in peroneal intraneural ganglia. ⋯ By using conventional bony anatomy as reference points (namely fibular neck and mid-portion of fibular head), standard axial images can be used to interpret key features of peroneal intraneural ganglia and to establish their accurate diagnosis (rather than extraneural ganglia) and pathogenesis from an articular origin (rather than from de novo formation), a fact that has important therapeutic implications. Because of the relative rarity of peroneal intraneural cysts and physicians' (radiologists and surgeons) inexperience with them and the complexity of their findings, they are frequently misdiagnosed and joint communications are not appreciated preoperatively or intraoperatively. As a result, outcomes are suboptimal and recurrences are common.

Paravertebral lumbar muscles are important for spine stabilization and mobility. They may be abnormal in several disorders that may be associated with pain or functional impairment. Special attention should be paid to the paravertebral muscles during imaging, so that a possible muscular disease is not overlooked, especially in patients with low back pain. This article reviews such imaging abnormalities.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis of the piriformis muscle syndrome (PMS). ⋯ In piriformis muscle syndrome, MRI may demonstrate signal abnormalities of the sciatic nerve as well as its relationship with the normal and abnormal piriformis muscle.
