The purpose of this study was to compare sonographic evaluations of patients referred with suspected snapping of their iliopsoas tendon with the pain relief achieved from anesthetic injection of the iliopsoas bursa, and with the subsequent surgical outcome. This study also assessed the effectiveness of Kenalog injection into the iliopsoas bursa for long-term pain relief. ⋯ Patients with groin pain and a clinically suspected snapping iliopsoas tendon can benefit from injection into the iliopsoas bursa even if the snapping tendon is not visualized sonographically. The use of a corticosteroid may provide long-term pain relief, and pain relief after injection is a predictor of good outcome after surgical release of the iliopsoas tendon.

The majority of lumbar facet joint cysts (LFJCs) are located in the spinal canal, on the medial aspect of the facet joint with characteristic diagnostic features. When they migrate away from the joint of origin, they cause diagnostic problems. ⋯ Awareness that spinal lesions identified at MRI and CT could be due to migrating facet joint cyst requires a high level of suspicion. The identification of the appositional contact of the cyst and the facet joint needs to be actively sought in the presence of degenerative facet joints.

To describe the technique of obturator nerve block under CT guidance via the posterior approach, and to evaluate the efficacy of the procedure in the short-term and mid-term relief of chronic hip pain. ⋯ In patients with hip pain refractory to conventional pain control measures, CT-guided obturator nerve block can provide relief from pain in the short to medium term. The posterior approach offers safe, reliable and effective access to the nerve, in a procedure which is well-tolerated by the patient.

Although large lesions of the limbs can easily be biopsied without image guidance, lesions in the spine, paraspinal area and pelvis are difficult to target, and benefit from CT guidance to improve the accuracy of targeting the lesion for biopsy purposes. A prospective study of CT-guided core needle biopsies for deep-seated musculoskeletal lesions was conducted at a referral cancer institute over a 4-year period with the aim of assessing the safety and efficacy of the procedure. ⋯ CT-guided core needle biopsy is a safe, easy, and effective technique for the evaluation of deep-seated musculoskeletal lesions, with a high rate of diagnostic yield and accuracy. It facilitates definitive therapy without the patient having to undergo a major surgical procedure for diagnosis.

Ganglioneuromas of the sacrum-a report of two cases with radiologic-pathologic correlation.
Ganglioneuromas are rare, benign, well-differentiated, slow-growing tumors, composed of ganglion cells and Schwann cells. Ganglioneuromas are derived from the neural crest cells and can arise anywhere from the base of the skull to the pelvis. We present and discuss the clinicopathologic and radiographic features of two patients with ganglioneuroma arising from the sacrum, a rare anatomic location.
