Comparative StudyThoracic manifestation of myeloperoxidase-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (MPO-ANCA)-related disease. CT findings in 51 patients.
To assess the pulmonary CT findings of patients with serum evidence of the myeloperoxidase-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (MPO-ANCA). ⋯ The CT findings in patients with MPO-ANCA consisted mainly of ground-glass attenuation and consolidation in the peripheral lung. These findings, although nonspecific, are considered as pulmonary involvement in patients with MPO-ANCA.

ReviewMultidetector computed tomography and blunt thoracoabdominal trauma.
Computed tomography has had an increasing role in the evaluation of patients after blunt trauma. Important findings in thoracic trauma include acute traumatic aortic injury, pneumothorax, hemothorax, pulmonary contusions and lacerations, mediastinal hematoma, and diaphragmatic rupture. The solid abdominal viscera may lacerate; infarct; or suffer vascular, ductal, or pyelocalyceal disruption. ⋯ In abdominal pelvic trauma, the direction of applied force often results in an identifiable constellation of injuries. This article reviews how multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) is used in the trauma patient. Technical advances of increased cephalocaudad coverage speed and improved z-axis resolution intrinsic to MDCT, together with effective contrast utilization, make MDCT invaluable in the setting of trauma.

ReviewAdvances in multidetector computed tomography: applications in neuroradiology.
The improvement in multidetector computed tomography has had a tremendous impact on neuroimaging. Some of these strides include imaging in the setting of acute stroke with the advent of perfusion computed tomography, and studying intracranial aneurysms and, to some extent, carotid artery disease. The purpose of this article is to review these applications as they were outlined at the "Advances in Multidetector CT" meeting held in Washington, DC, September 13-14, 2003.

Comparative StudySpirometric-gated computed tomography quantitative evaluation of lung emphysema in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a comparison of 3 techniques.
To compare the quantitative assessment of pulmonary emphysema with spirometric-gated computed tomography (gated CT) using 3 different acquisition techniques and to determine if low-current spiral CT could be used effectively to quantitate emphysema. ⋯ Low- and standard-dose spiral CT provides similar lung density data in COPD. The combination of low-dose whole-lung spiral CT and 3-slice HRCT represents the best compromise between the amount of information provided and radiation exposure to the patient and could be substituted for standard-dose spiral CT for quantitative evaluation of COPD.

The fat pad sign following elbow trauma in adults: its usefulness and reliability in suspecting occult fracture.
An elbow joint effusion with no fracture seen on radiographs after acute trauma has become synonymous with occult fracture. This study evaluates the incidence of fracture in such cases as determined by MR imaging and the predictive value of an elbow joint effusion. ⋯ Our data using MR imaging suggests that fat pad elevation in the presence of recent trauma is frequently associated with a fracture. The size of the effusion, anterior/posterior fat pad elevation, or a combination of both does not correspond to the likelihood of an underlying fracture. MR imaging reveals a broad spectrum of bone and soft tissue injury beyond that recognizable on plain radiographs as demonstrated by all patients in this study.
