Comparative StudyCT findings of pulmonary tuberculosis presenting as segmental consolidation.
The purpose of our study was to determine specific CT findings of tuberculous pneumonia presenting as segmental or lobar consolidation along with a pathologic review of specimens with similar radiographic patterns. ⋯ Fluid bronchogram in the area of homogeneous consolidation, bronchial luminal dilatation, and bronchial wall thickening of the proximal airway were the bronchial changes more significantly prominent in the tuberculous pneumonia group. We suspect that these findings may represent tuberculous bronchitis in small airways.

Case ReportsLung metastases manifesting as pulmonary infarction by mucin and tumor embolization: radiographic, high-resolution CT, and pathologic findings.
We present a case of lung metastasis manifesting as lung infarction by mucin and tumor embolization. The radiograph and high-resolution CT showed multiple focal consolidations with ground glass attenuation in subpleural areas of both lungs. Diagnosis was made by open lung biopsy, which revealed pulmonary infarction caused by intravascular adenocarcinoma with numerous mucus emboli in pulmonary arteries. Subpleurally located consolidations on high-resolution CT correlated well with the histologic findings of lung infarction by mucin and tumor emboli.

Comparative StudyA comparison of alternative methods of measuring femoral anteversion.
Although CT scans are widely believed to provide the most accurate measurements of femoral anteversion, any estimate of the anteversion of the femur depends on the accuracy of the calculated axis of the femoral neck. We devised a method to measure the anteversion of the femur precisely using a 3D femoral computer model reconstructed from digitized femoral contours. Using this method, we compared the accuracy of three popular methods of anteversion measurement based on CT scans. ⋯ The single slice CT method has sufficient accuracy for use, provided the slice is taken just below the femoral head. In cases with a femoral head deformity or a valgus neck or where difficulty is encountered in positioning the patient, 3D reconstruction appears essential for accurate measurement of anteversion.

Comparative StudySpectrum of manifestations of Swyer-James-MacLeod syndrome.
The clinical and imaging findings of children with Swyer-James-MacLeod syndrome (SJMS) were reviewed to determine the incidence and type of bronchiectasis and analyze whether the clinical course of patients with bronchiectasis differed from that of patients without bronchiectasis. ⋯ SJMS should be considered as a spectrum disease. Bronchiectasis is not a universal finding. The presence and type of bronchiectasis will influence clinical manifestations and prognosis. Patients without bronchiectasis or with cylindrical bronchiectasis had a lower incidence of pneumonia episodes than those with saccular bronchiectasis.

Percutaneous lumbar sympathetic plexus catheter placement for short- and long-term pain relief: CT technique and results.
The purpose of this work was to evaluate the use of percutaneously placed lumbar sympathetic plexus catheter placement under CT guidance in patients with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) or nonspecified neuropathic pain (NP) of the lower extremity. ⋯ Percutaneous lumbar sympathetic plexus catheter placement is easily performed, achieves short-term pain relief in the majority of patients, and may prove effective in long-term pain relief of CRPS patients.
