The minimally invasive (MI) anterolateral approach is a relatively new approach for the treatment of femoral neck fractures with a hemiarthroplasty (HA). There is limited research available presenting clinical outcomes after an HA using the MI approach. Therefore the aim of the present study was to compare clinical outcomes of the MI and traditional anterolateral approaches in patients after HA. ⋯ Prognostic level III retrospective cohort study.

Previous studies of soft tissue infiltration in hip arthroplasty present variable results. The purpose of this study is to identify whether injection of an analgesic mixture improves pain management during the immediate post-operative period. ⋯ Level II, cohort study.

This in vivo study aims to investigate the effects of curcumin which is recently developed for tendon healing using a rat Achilles tendon injury model. ⋯ Curcumin had better results for total tendon healing not only histologically but also biomechanically. Curcumin could be an additional agent in the management of surgically repaired tendon injuries.

The purpose of this study was to introduce a novel method of percutaneous achievement and maintenance of reduction for acute displaced scaphoid fractures and evaluate the feasibility of this method in treating acute displaced scaphoid fractures as well as explore its indications. ⋯ Our technique is successfully performed in acute displaced scaphoid fractures resulting in shortened immobilization and prompt functional recovery. It broadens the indications of the percutaneous method, which means the advantages of the percutaneous method are maximally reserved whilst the drawbacks of open reduction were avoided.

Opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) as a treatment in unicompartimental osteoarthritis of the knee can significantly relieve pain and prevent or at least delay an early joint replacement. The fixation of the osteotomy has undergone development and refinements during the last years. The angle-stable plate fixator is currently one of the most commonly used plates in HTOs. The angular stable fixation between screws and the plate offers a high primary stability to retain the correction with early weight-bearing protocols. This surgical technique is performed as a standard of care and generally well tolerated by the patients. Nevertheless, some studies observed that many patients complained about discomfort related to the implant. ⋯ The results suggest that intramedullary nailing might be used as an alternative concept in HTO.
