There is a strong link between female sex hormones and sleep. This implies the existence of sex differences both in the structure of sleep as in the incidence of various sleep disorders. ⋯ The reasons that underlie in gender differences in sleeping disorders are attributed to differences in normal sleep pattern, in the clinical manifestations and risk factors for sleep disorders, and in the results and optimal dose of treatments.

Benign convulsions with mild gastroenteritis (CwG) are a rare diagnosis in Western countries, and it is characterized by afebrile seizures, almost times more than once, during a gastroenteritis without severe hydroelectrolitic affection. The most frequent implied virus is rotavirus. This is a benign disease, in spite of cluster seizures, and neither complementary explorations nor antiepileptic treatment is required. ⋯ CwG due to rotavirus are possibly infradiagnosed, and perhaps classified as atypical febrile seizures, febrile status or early infancy benign partial epilepsy. This benign diagnosis should be considered for a correct management and prognosis.

To establish risk factors for seizure recurrence and short term Engel classification after surgery for mesial temporal sclerosis (MTS). ⋯ Epileptogenic focus location by electrophysiology is a fundamental factor in short term outcome after surgery for MTS.

To determine the prevalence and the clinical-epidemiological and therapeutic characteristics of primary headaches in a rural population in Cuba. ⋯ The prevalence of primary headaches is high in the rural population under study; the high rate of prescription drug abuse (mainly painkillers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) has led to a significant number of headaches becoming chronic. This health problem is also seen to have an important effect on occupational affairs.
