In this review we study drug addiction from a neurobiological point of view, emphasizing the dopamine hypothesis. This is basic to explain how a genetic feature is related with an alteration of this neurotransmitter and can connect with environmental factors to develop the addiction problem. ⋯ Knowing the neurobiological mechanisms involved in addiction and its relation with dopamine and the reward system can help us understand that problem and aid the rational development of treatment

In order to reduce intracerebral trauma in the diagnosis and treatment of intracranial lesions in children, neuroendoscopy is an important tool in current neurosurgery. Using this minimally invasive technique intraventricular objectives may be approached with little damage caused to adjacent structures. ⋯ The formal indications for neuroendoscopy are greater in paediatric neurosurgery. In fact, the management of the CSF circulation, and disorders associated with this, together with the identification of tumours using minimally invasive methods, make this technique directly useful for solving these problems. This is most obvious in lesions such as multiseptate complex hydrocephaly, and intraventricular tumours and cysts where it is the first surgical option. In the short term, thanks to improvements in neuro navigation and frameless stereotaxis, its use will be wider and more precise

Review[Clinical neuropsychology of the surgery of temporal lobe epilepsy].
The surgery of epilepsy has become a real alternative for the treatment of patients with drug resistant epilepsy. In this study we review the part played by Clinical Neuropsychology in programmes of surgery for epilepsy, particularly in operations designed to treat drug resistant temporal lobe epilepsy. ⋯ Review of the literature shows how important it is for the clinical neuropsychologist to be involved in programmes of the surgery of epilepsy, studying the patients before and after surgery and assessing prognosis. Clinical neuropsychology is also important for predicting the post surgical neuropsychological results.

Review[Advances in physiopathology and the treatment of neuropathic pain].
In this paper we review the most significant studies on the treatment of neuropathic pain over the last few decades, as well as the most recent research work in which the physiopathological mechanisms of pain, with the intention of looking for evidence based criteria that can help us to choose the most appropriate treatment. ⋯ Different neurophysical alterations induce the most diverse clinical manifestations, such as paresthesia, hyperalgesia or allodynia, regardless of the etiological processes that condition them. The efficiency of tricyclic antidepressants and of carbamazepine is made clear in different clinical studies, but the new antiepileptics (with the exception of gabapentin) have frequently been used in open clinical studies, which means there is a need for double blind controlled clinical trials in order to determine the efficiency and the tolerability of the different therapeutic alternatives in each of the clinical manifestations of neuropathic pain.
