Write a scientific paper (WASP): Editor's perspective of submissions and dealing with editors.
Once an author/s submits a manuscript to a journal, editorial and review processes are initiated which will determine acceptance or rejection of a manuscript. Understanding the editor's perspective and role enables authors to appreciate the factors that can ensure that the submitted manuscript meets the editor's expectations. This increases the chances that the manuscript passes the initial scrutiny and is forwarded for peer review. ⋯ Authors need to digest the reasons for rejection, review comments and suggestions and incorporate them into the revised manuscript prior to identifying another journal for possible submission. If the manuscript is accepted with minor or major revisions, the authors need to make sure all comments and recommendations are dealt with. Once the manuscript satisfies the editor's and reviewers' expectations, it is on its way to publication.

Association between prenatal opioid exposure, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, and neurodevelopmental and behavioral outcomes at 5-8 months of age.
While use of prescription opioids and medication assisted therapy (MAT) for opioid use disorder in pregnancy, as well as the incidence of neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS) continue to rise, little is known about outcomes for children with NOWS beyond the newborn period. ⋯ Our results provide additional evidence of little-to-no effect of MAT and pharmacological treatment of NOWS on infant neurodevelopmental and behavioral outcomes at 5-8 months of age. However, prolonged hospitalization might increase family psychosocial stress and requires further examination.

Prenatal buprenorphine exposure and neonatal neurobehavioral functioning.
Assessments of effects of prenatal opioid exposure on the neonate have consisted principally of evaluations of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) to determine the need for pharmacotherapy. The purpose of this study was to comprehensively evaluate the effects of gestational maternal buprenorphine maintenance on newborn neurobehavioral functioning. ⋯ Buprenorphine exposure during pregnancy can alter neonatal neurobehavioral and physiological responses to stimuli. A systematic evaluation of the newborn's functional domains above NAS assessment alone is crucial to address the challenges created by neurobehavioral dysregulation associated with substance exposure, improve caregiver/infant interaction and developmental trajectory. Comprehensive pre/postnatal treatment of buprenorphine-maintained mothers can lead to healthier outcomes for the dyad.

Comparative StudyServo controlled versus manual cooling methods in neonates with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.
Therapeutic hypothermia is known to improve outcomes in neonates with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). There are no studies that have compared servo controlled cooling (SCC) versus manually controlled cooling (MCC) methods in HIE. ⋯ SCC resulted in better thermoregulation in neonates undergoing therapeutic hypothermia. There were no significant differences in neurodevelopmental outcomes, but the study was underpowered to answer this. Randomized trials are needed to fine-tune various aspects of TH in neonates with HIE.

Protein S100B in umbilical cord blood as a potential biomarker of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy in asphyxiated newborns.
Neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a devastating condition resulting from a sustained lack of oxygen during birth. The interest in identifying a relevant biomarker of HIE has thrown into limelight the role of protein S100B as a clinical diagnostic marker of hypoxic brain damage in neonates. ⋯ Protein S100B in neonates suffering from HIE stages II-III appeared elevated in umbilical cord blood at birth. The S100B concentrations were positively associated to the severity of disease and the risk of suffering from neurodevelopmental sequelae and even death.
