Review Comparative Study
Pharmacotherapy for the treatment of aggressive behavior in general adult psychiatry: A systematic review.
To systematically review the evidence for pharmacologic management of outwardly directed aggressive behavior in general adult psychiatry. ⋯ Whereas pharmacotherapy is frequently applied in aggressive patients, only weak evidence of efficacy of various drug classes was found. Consensus about the use of aggression measurement scales in clinical trials is necessary for future research. Furthermore, large-scale trials with more naturalistic designs, as opposed to classical randomized controlled trials with strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, may be advisable in order to obtain results that are more generalizable to daily clinical practice.

The use and abuse of substances-including alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, inhalants, and other drugs-are commonly found to be comorbid with psychiatric conditions in adolescents. This dual diagnosis requires special attention and treatment, especially as substance use often begins during this developmental period. ⋯ Treatment of the psychiatric disorder often helps to alleviate the substance use disorder as well. This activity discusses the epidemiology, assessment, and treatment of this dual diagnosis.

Surgical physicians often treat victims of terror-related multiple-casualty incidents. This may cause secondary posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), impairing their ability to care for patients. The objective of this study was to determine whether professional exposure to victims of terror caused PTSD in Israeli physicians from surgical disciplines. ⋯ Hospital physicians from surgical disciplines who were professionally exposed to victims of terror did not demonstrate a higher incidence of PTSD than their less exposed counterparts.

It is important to examine for the presence of depression and anxiety in patients presenting with sleep disorders, as depression and anxiety impair quality of life and are treatable conditions.

Randomized Controlled Trial Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Bupropion extended release compared with escitalopram: effects on sexual functioning and antidepressant efficacy in 2 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies.
To compare the effects on sexual functioning and the antidepressant efficacy of once-daily bupropion extended release (XL) and escitalopram in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD). ⋯ Bupropion XL had a sexual tolerability profile significantly better than that of escitalopram with similar HAM-D-17 remission rates and HAD total scores in patients with MDD.
