There were few studies to compare the outcomes of different types of cervical laminoplasties. ⋯ Double-door staple, double-door spacer, and single-door miniplate can achieve favorable clinical outcomes for CSM. The blood loss of double-door staple is less than that of single-door miniplate, and the operation time of double-door staple is shorter than that of double-door spacer. The mean expansion ratio of cervical intraspinal cross-sectional area decreased in the order of double-door staple > double-door spacer > single-door miniplate. Overall, double-door staple is a safe and innovative alternative choice for treatment of CSM.

Stereotactic radiosurgery has become a common treatment approach for small-to-medium size vestibular schwannomas. ⋯ Our analysis showed that risk of hearing decline was associated with male sex, higher radiation dose rate (cutoff 2.5 Gy/minute), higher integral dose received by the tumor, higher beam-on time ≥20 minutes, and lower BED. A BED between 55 and 61 was considered as optimal for hearing preservation.

Outcome of temporal lobe epilepsy associated with hippocampal sclerosis (TLE-HS) has rarely been evaluated exclusively. ⋯ Surgery for drug-resistant TLE-HS was associated with higher rate of long-term seizure-freedom, resolution of epilepsy, and reduction of anti-seizure medications with improvement in perceived life changes compared with best medical management. The presence of an aura was predictor for resolution of epilepsy while APOS and an abnormal postoperative EEG were predictors of persistent seizures.

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is an effective adjuvant therapy for residual tumor after subtotal resection of parasellar meningiomas. Fat graft placement between the optic nerve/chiasm and residual tumor (optic neuropexy [OPN]) allows for safe SRS therapy. ⋯ OPN is a technique that can be safely performed after resection of parasellar meningiomas. Because of the reduction of the fat volume and tissue differentiation between fat and tumor/nerves, adjuvant radiosurgery is better performed within the first 3 months after surgery.

The increase in use of targeted systemic therapies in cancer treatments has catalyzed the importance of identifying patient- and tumor-specific somatic mutations, especially regarding metastatic disease. Mutations found to be most prevalent in patients with metastatic breast cancer include TP53, PI3K, and CDH1. ⋯ The results of this study demonstrate that there is an increased prevalence of PI3K mutations in patients with MBCS and there are a significant survival benefit and delay in progression of motor symptoms associated with using targeted systemic therapies for adjuvant treatment.
