Treatment-resistant depression is a leading cause of disability. Our center's trial for neurosurgical intervention for treatment-resistant depression involves a staged workup for implantation of a personalized, closed-loop neuromodulation device for refractory depression. The first stage ("stage 1") of workup involves implantation of 10 stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) electrodes bilaterally into 5 anatomically defined brain regions and involves a specialized preoperative imaging and planning workup and a frame-based operating protocol. ⋯ Our protocol outlined for SEEG electrode implantation incorporates tractography and frame-based stereotaxy.

Despite the globalization of health information, collaborations between high-income countries (HICs) and low/middle-income countries (LMICs), while present, could still increase. This study builds on previous research highlighting LMIC underrepresentation in neurosurgery literature. We conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database to investigate collaborative neurosurgical research between HIC institutions and those in low-income country (LIC)/LMICs. ⋯ Global guidelines and consensus papers can enhance patient care, but LMICs' involvement remains limited. Further attention to training and collaboration initiatives is needed. This study emphasizes the importance of promoting collaboration and training between countries with varying resources to advance neurosurgical care globally.

Pediatric Congenital Anterior Skull Base Encephaloceles and Surgical Management: A Comparative Review of 22 Patients Treated With Transnasally, Transcranially, or Combined Approach With a Review of the Literature.
Anterior basal encephaloceles are considered a rare entity and are often associated with midline cerebral abnormalities. Those with a large skull base defect and herniation of brain parenchyma in the neonate or young infant present unique challenges for surgical management. ⋯ Basal encephaloceles are rare and complex lesions and are optimally managed within a skull base multidisciplinary team able to provide multiple approaches. Large skull base defects with brain parenchymal involvement often require a transcranial or combined transcranial-endoscopic approach.

Global neurosurgery seeks to provide quality neurosurgical health care worldwide and faces challenges because of historical, socioeconomic, and political factors. To address the shortfall of essential neurosurgical procedures worldwide, dyads between established neurosurgical and developing centers have been established. Concerns have been raised about their effectiveness and ability to sustain capacity development. ⋯ Personal experiences from the authors through their partnerships were also captured. We propose a tiered approach for capacity building that provides structured guidance for establishing neurosurgical partnerships with the ECOSystem of care. Clinical partnerships in global neurosurgery aim to build autonomy, enabling independent provision of quality healthcare services.

Predictors of Durable Remission After Successful Surgery for Cushing Disease: Results From the Multicenter RAPID Registry.
Cushing disease (CD) affects mortality and quality of life along with limited long-term remission, underscoring the need to better identify recurrence risk. The identification of surgical or imaging predictors for CD remission after transsphenoidal surgery has yielded some inconsistent results and has been limited by single-center, single-surgeon, or meta-analyses studies. We sought to evaluate the multicenter Registry of Adenomas of the Pituitary and Related Disorders (RAPID) database of academic US pituitary centers to assess whether robust nonhormonal recurrence predictors could be elucidated. ⋯ This multicenter study centers suggests that the strongest predictors of recurrence include tumor size/invasion and age. This insight can help with patient counseling and prognostication. Long-term follow-up is necessary for patients, and early treatment of small tumors may improve outcomes.
