Review Meta AnalysisNon-alcoholic fatty liver disease in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: systematic review and meta-analysis.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an insidious pathologic condition that can manifest from simple steatosis to steatohepatitis (NASH) with potential progression to cirrhosis. Like the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), NAFLD is associated with obesity, diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. PCOS women have an increased risk of NAFLD, but it is debatable which features of PCOS, either specific (androgen excess) or unspecific (metabolic derangements) affect the NAFLD risk. ⋯ The prevalence of NAFLD is increased in women with PCOS and the presence of NAFLD is associated with high serum androgen levels, in addition to obesity and insulin resistance.

Quantitative ultrasound and DXA measurements in aromatase inhibitor-treated breast cancer women receiving denosumab.
Denosumab has been proven to reduce fracture risk in breast cancer (BC) women under aromatase inhibitors (AIs). Quantitative ultrasound (QUS) provides information on the structure and elastic properties of bone. Our aim was to assess bone health by phalangeal QUS and by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and to evaluate bone turnover in AIs-treated BC women receiving denosumab. ⋯ Denosumab preserves bone health as assessed by phalangeal QUS and DXA. Since inexpensive and radiation-free, phalangeal QUS may be considered in the follow-up of AIs-treated BC women receiving denosumab.

Sensitivity of various body indices and visceral adiposity index in predicting metabolic syndrome among Chinese patients with adult growth hormone deficiency.
Adult growth hormone deficiency (AGHD) refers to decreased secretion of growth hormones in the adults, which is associated with increased clustering of conventional cardiovascular risk factors such as central obesity, insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. Metabolic syndrome (MetS), a recognized risk factor of cardiovascluar diseases, shares some clinical features. Given that the prevalence of MetS is on the rise in patients with AGHD, and that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in that population, the alternative, simple, non-invasive methods of assessing MetS among this population are needed. This study aims to determine the sensitivity of five anthropometric indices [Body mass index (BMI), Waist circumference (WC), Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), Waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) and Visceral adiposity index (VAI)] in predicting metabolic syndrome in Chinese population-based patients with adult growth hormone deficiency. ⋯ In conclusion, our study showed all adiposity measures of interest present themselves as easy and practical tools for use in population studies and clinical practice for evaluating MetS in AGDH and VAI was identified as the best in Chinese AGHD patients among them.

Relationship between circulating anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb) and tumor metabolism in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC): prognostic implications.
TgAb have been proposed as tumor markers in DTC. Recent evidence links TgAb levels with DTC aggressiveness. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between TgAb and tumor glucose metabolism in DTC patients. ⋯ The relationship between higher tumor metabolism and trend of TgAb supports a prognostic relevance of TgAb in DTC patients. Significantly higher TgAb in radioiodine avid tumors with positive 18F-FDG PET/CT further testify the role of TgAb as surrogate tumor marker in DTC.
