To assess for changes in trends of GP chest radiograph reporting over a 10-year period and to assess if there has been a change in recommendations for follow-up. ⋯ Along with the increase in the quantity of GP-referred chest radiographs over the past 10 years, suggestions for follow-up have increased, particularly for nodule surveillance. Reasons for this increase may include lack of availability of CT to GPs for lung cancer screening, insensitivity of plain radiographs to early cancer detection, and possible fear of litigation for missing lesions, making radiologists more cautious.

Cancer is a major burden on the healthcare system, and new therapies are needed. Recently, the development of immunotherapies, which aim to boost or use the immune system, or its constituents, as a tool to fight malignant cells, has provided a major new tool in the arsenal of clinicians and has revolutionized the treatment of many cancers. ⋯ The ensuing years have seen two further cellular immunotherapies gain FDA approval: tisagenlecleucel (Kymriah) and axicabtagene ciloleucel (Yescarta). This review will give an overview of the principles of immunotherapies before focusing on the major forms of cellular immunotherapies individually, T cell-based, natural killer (NK) cell-based and dendritic cell (DC)-based, as well as detailing some of the clinical trials relevant to each therapy.

The gingivitis treatment protocols aim to stop the progression of inflammation and prevent the affliction of deeper periodontal tissues. Current research focuses on novel methods that can be applied with handheld and ultrasonic devices to increase the effectiveness of non-surgical periodontal treatment. Ozone has been shown to have a strong antimicrobial effect against bacteria that play a role in the etiology of gingival/periodontal diseases. Research evaluating the effects of ozone gas on the treatment of gingival tissues is limited. ⋯ Additional studies comparing the effect of ozone therapy on smokers and non-smokers to the effects of oral mouthwashes may provide valuable contributions to the field.

Screening for developmental hip dysplasia (DDH) continues to evolve with the use of ultrasound (US) in either selective or universal screening methods. The possibility of delayed evidence of DDH, and thus the need for radiographic follow-up at a later stage of development have been suggested by some authors. ⋯ Eight percent of patients with a normal screening US had evidence of DDH at time of radiograph at 6 months, reflecting 34% of all our DDH cases for the year. Based on these findings, patients in our hospital network undergo radiographic evaluation at 6 months even if the initial screening US is normal.

An ileal pouch anal anastomosis (IPAA) is the treatment of choice in selected patients to restore intestinal continuity following proctocolectomy. Data on IPAA in the Republic of Ireland is lacking, and surgery for IPAA has evolved over time. The aim of this retrospective study was to report our institutional outcomes from IPAA over a 20-year period. ⋯ Acceptable long-term outcomes were observed by our institution. A recent increase in institutional volume, reduction in patient age, and increase in the proportion of cases performed laparoscopically have been identified.
