Effect of targeted prophylaxis with rectal swab on complications after prostate biopsy: prospective randomized study.
For diagnosis of prostate cancer, prostate biopsy accompanied by TRUS is the current method applied today. ⋯ The results of the study identified that routine administration of targeted antibiotic prophylaxis may be more effective in preventing infective complications compared to standard prophylaxis. Targeted prophylaxis is recommended for risky patients in the guidelines. However, the lack of difference between the groups in terms of age and comorbidities supports the need to administer targeted prophylaxis not just to risky patients but as well as routine practice.

The coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected all aspects of life, including the routine follow-up of patients with chronic illnesses. In this study, we aim to share our experience of telemedicine in our pediatric endocrinology clinic during the pandemic. ⋯ The advantages and disadvantages of telemedicine were discussed and consequently, we propose that telemedicine can be utilized to maintain and continue the care of children with endocrine disorders during and even after the pandemic. Further studies are needed to standardize this method for general use.

Cardiovascular disorders pose great threat to public health. As a common type of cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis is characterized by high morbidity and mortality/recurrence rate. However, the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis is complex and not fully understood. The aim of this study was to investigate the influences of hsa_circRNA_102541 (circ_102541) on proliferation and apoptosis of HUVEC cells and to identify the underlying mechanisms. ⋯ Taken together, circRNA_102541 was upregulated in atherosclerosis, and knockdown of circRNA_102541 suppressed cell proliferation while promoted apoptosis of HUVEC cells via miR-296-5p/PLK1. This novel pathway may serve essential roles on the development of atherosclerosis, and circRNA_102541 could be a promising therapeutic candidate for the treatment of atherosclerosis.

The physician assistant role in healthcare delivery was first introduced during the 1960s in the USA as a solution to doctor shortages, greater population healthcare needs and increasing healthcare provision costs. Since then, many countries worldwide have utilized the successful USA physician assistant model as a benchmark to guide both physician assistant training and the incorporation of the role into their healthcare systems. While the USA retained the title physician assistant, Ireland and the UK use the title physician associate. ⋯ Physician assistants in the USA and the Netherlands have prescribing privileges. Statutory regulation for physician assistants/associates lays the groundwork for prescribing privileges and such regulation is under consideration by the government in the UK. Studies indicate that doctors and patients are largely satisfied with the contribution of this profession to healthcare services and physician assistants/associates report good job satisfaction.
