Data on the role of central sensitization in hemodialyzed patients are scarce. The aim was to identify the impact of central sensitization on quality of life and elucidate the risk factors for the development of central sensitization in patients receiving hemodialysis. ⋯ This study confirms that given the high frequency of central sensitization and its significant negative impact on quality of life, the presence of central sensitization should be investigated in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Exomphalos anomaly is defined as the herniation of abdominal viscera into the base of the umbilical cord, with only a membranous sac covering these contents. It has an incidence of approximately 1 in 4000-6000 births. Management of exomphalos major (EM) remains controversial and limited, with very few studies to guide decision-making. ⋯ This case series describes a successful compression dressing technique that reduces sac content without the need for general anaesthetic or respiratory compromise, whereby simultaneous enteral feeding is tolerated.

Recently, burnout has amassed considerable attention because of deleterious effects on workers and the work environment. Frequently, EMS clinicians find themselves prone to experiencing burnout, yet little is known about etiologies in this population. ⋯ This study showed a nearly 60% prevalence of occupational burnout in the group of EMS clinicians surveyed, making burnout of considerable concern in this population. Further study is needed to address occupational factors that contribute to burnout in EMS clinicians.

Cancer and its associated side effects can cause changes in dietary intakes of people with cancer due to a variety of nutrition impact symptoms. These symptoms can lead to suboptimal dietary intakes which negatively affect muscle mass and therefore survivorship. The aim of this qualitative study was to assess the nutrition needs and dietary changes made by cancer patients in Ireland. ⋯ Treatment of nutrition impact symptoms must be rapid and responsive. The development of responsive self-management resources such as booklets and apps for patients is likely to be valuable to ensure that patients can access support for their nutrition impact symptoms as-and when-they occur. Nutrition support must be integrated across the multi-disciplinary team to optimise trust in nutrition strategies.

Use the MDRD (Modification of Diet in Renal Disease) and 2021 CKD-EPI (Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration) equation void of race coefficients (CKD-EPICrea, CKD-EPICys-C, and CKD-EPICrea+Cys-C) to estimate the BV (Biological variation) of eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) within 24 h in a healthy population to help explain future studies using eGFR in the context of a known BV. ⋯ We present data on the 24 h BV eGFR of the 2021 CKD-EPI equations. The presence of BV has impact on the interpretation of GFR results, affecting CKD disease grading. The RCVpos/neg differences were large among the individuals. When using eGFRs based on the MDRD and CKD-EPI equations, it is necessary to combine RCVpos/neg values before interpreting the results.
