Linezolid is an oxazolidinone antimicrobial regarded as a "last resort" antimicrobial, used typically for treatment of Gram-positive bacterial infections. It is acknowledged that prevalence of resistance to linezolid is increasing in Europe. In Ireland, a number of outbreaks of linezolid-resistant isolates have been reported, including an outbreak at the location for this study, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of University Hospital Limerick (UHL). ⋯ While this point prevalence study identified extremely low carriage of linezolid-resistant bacteria, it remains prudent to maintain vigilance as reports of outbreaks associated with linezolid-resistant S. epidermidis (LRSE) in European critical care units are increasing.

Asia is home to a burgeoning market for telemedicine with the availability of cheaper smartphones and internet services. Due to a rise in telemedicine use by doctors and patients, it is imperative to understand the perception of patients towards the adoption of telemedicine, the availability of telemedicine to the general population, the frequency with which patients avail these services, and the motivation or apprehensions in using them, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ Understanding the perceptions of patients, using targeted health education, positive communication, and behavioral modifications, is the key factor to be addressed to mitigate the apprehensions towards telemedicine and improve the utilization of the services.

The association of thrombospondin type 1 domain-containing 7A (THSD7A) expression, a novel angiogenesis-related marker, with survival outcomes of tumors including renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remains to be clarified. Therefore, we investigated the impact of THSD7A on outcomes of metastatic RCC (mRCC) patients treated with targeted therapy. ⋯ We revealed that THSD7A expression was associated with OS of mRCC patients treated with targeted therapy. There might be an important link between THSD7A expression and resistance to targeted therapy.

The diagnostic and prognostic value of microRNAs (miRNA) in human disease has been confirmed in a number of clinical studies. ⋯ The level of miR-191-5p was down-regulated in patients with poor neurological outcomes, and it could be used as a promising novel biomarker for prediction of neurological outcome and survival after OHCA.

Predictors of improvement in resting heart rate after exercise training in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
High resting heart rate (RHR) is associated with multiple morbidity in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Factors regarding the effectiveness of exercise training (ET) on RHR in COPD patients are unclear. ⋯ NCT04890080 (retrospectively registered-date of registration: 05.17.2021).
