Lung cancer is a disease that severely endangers human health. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for approximately 4/5 of lung cancers. ⋯ Early combination of local radiotherapy and GM-CSF has a significant efficacy for advanced NSCLC accounts for approximately 4/5 of lung cancers treated with icotinib, and it can improve patients' autoimmunity and lengthen progression free survival.

Acute appendicitis is a common surgical emergency in children. The majority of appendicectomies in children are performed by general surgeons, rather than specialist paediatric surgeons. ⋯ Children younger than 8 years undergoing appendicectomy in HVGHs or SPCs, or by HVSs, have marginally better outcomes. In older children, marginally shorter in-hospital stays and higher laparoscopic rates are seen in those looked after outside of high-volume or specialist units. Our results show that nonspecialist centres provide an essential, and safe, service to paediatric patients with acute appendicitis.

Recent study reported that microRNA-142 (miR-142) were up-regulated in the atherosclerotic plaques, which may be responsible for pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. However, whether it associates with presence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and its prognostic value is still unknown. We, therefore, investigated the association between miR-142 expression and presence of AMI, and its prognostic value in AMI patients. ⋯ The serum level of miR-142 was increased in AMI patients when compared with health population. Furthermore, use of this marker may allow a certain predictor of the MACCE in AMI patients.

Impact of the 2016 World Health Organization Classification of Tumours of the Central Nervous System: an Irish experience.
The 2016 World Health Organization Classification of Tumours of the Central Nervous System Tumours represents the most significant update to neuro-oncological tumour classification to date, compared with previous updates. This update reflects the substantial advances in molecular and genetic understanding of both adult and childhood brain tumours which have occurred in recent years. These advances have meant that an increasing array of molecular tests are required to definitively classify a tumour, allowing for a more precise integrated pathological diagnosis, but at the expense of a more challenging pathology workup. We review the changes incorporated into the 2016 classification and describe the impact of these changes in an Irish neuropathology laboratory.

In 2018, nearly 75 million people were displaced from their place of origin of which 20.4 million are considered as refugees. Children constitute over half of this population. A review of the currently available literature regarding the psychological impact of forced displacement on children was performed with the concept examined under three stages of flight: pre-migration, intra-migration and post-migration. ⋯ The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the factors contributing to the manifestation of mental health issues in child refugees as well as to examine mechanisms which enhance successful resettling in the host society. Health and social care providers must understand the complex interplay between the damaging effects of displacement, and the innate protective factors that persecuted children possess. Management should involve a holistic approach that considers children, families and native communities.
