Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Comparison of GlideScope video laryngoscopy and Macintosh laryngoscope in ear-nose and throat surgery.
Endotracheal intubation procedure employed during general anaesthesia is the most effective way for keeping the airways and respiration under control and has low risk of complications. We have aimed in this study to compare the first-attempt success and duration of the endotracheal intubation process and its effects on haemodynamics using the Macintosh laryngoscope and the GlideScope video laryngoscope. ⋯ In our study, despite the longer intubation times in group G, the haemodynamic response was significantly lower in this group. It is believed that especially in cases with vital requirement of haemodynamic stability, the GlideScope video laryngoscope would be safer to employ.

It is a first case report for a woman pregnant with twins who suddenly ruptured with a Stanford type B aortic dissection. ⋯ This case report illustrates the value of comprehensive multidisciplinary discussion and collaboration among different departments to make quick decisions. Endovascular stent-graft repair may be the best option for the treatment of Stanford type B aortic dissection in late pregnancy.

Obturator nerve block transurethral surgery for bladder cancer: comparison of inguinal and intravesical approaches: prospective randomized trial.
Transurethral resection of bladder tumors close to these areas may stimulate the obturator nerve, causing violent adductor contraction and possible inadvertent bladder perforation. To avoid this reaction, local anesthetic blockade of the obturator nerve as it passes through the obturator canal is effective in stopping adductor spasm during spinal anesthesia. ⋯ Obturator nerve block plays an additive role on the quality of analgesia for bladder surgery. Our data suggests that identification of the obturator nerve with ultrasound is easy and the block can be assessed by observing avoidance of bladder spasm.

We describe a case report and technique for using an ultrasound scanner and a linear transducer to guide serratus posterior superior (SPS) muscle injection. A 43-year-old female presented with chronic pain centered under the right upper portion of her scapula impacting her activities of daily living. ⋯ Serratus posterior superior injection can confirm a diagnosis of scapulocostal syndrome and be therapeutically beneficial.

Variable phenotypes in Greig cephalopolysyndactyly sydrome (GCPS) and their relevance to plastic surgery.
Greig cephalopolysyndactyly syndrome (GCPS) is an uncommon entity characterised by polysyndactyly and craniofacial features. The syndrome is not defined by classic signs. Instead there is a high variability in phenotypes observed. This is due to the large number of different mutations in the glioma-associated oncogene 3 (GLI3) that can give rise to the syndrome. We present a case series of five un-related individuals with GCPS treated in our hand surgery unit with different phenotype presentations of GCPS. ⋯ An awareness of the diversity in phenotypes is important for diagnosis and early referral for genetic confirmation and counselling.
