The authors studied the epidemiological, clinical, and outcome features of the Ebola virus disease in patients hospitalized at the Ebola treatment center (ETC) in Conakry to identify clinical factors associated with death. ⋯ The first Ebola outbreak in Conakry was characterized by the young age of patients, discrete hemorrhagic signs related to lethality. Its control relies on a strict use of preventive measures.

Prevalence and impact on quality of life of post-herpetic neuralgia in French medical centers specialized in chronic pain management: the ZOCAD study.
(1) We had for aim to determine the rate of patients consulting for post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) in centers specialized in the management of chronic pain, (2) to assess the burden of PHN, (3) to compare the impact of PHN between new (newly consulting for PHN) and known (already treated by pain specialists) patients. ⋯ PHN is a frequent cause of visit in French medical centers specialized in chronic pain management long after the rash has disappeared, and a reason for treatment with drugs that should be prescribed cautiously in elderly patients.

We assessed the compliance to recommendations for the routine management of Plasmodium vivax/ovale malaria, and analyzed the impact of discrepancies on the quality of care. ⋯ The delay before access to primaquine radical cure was the only parameter, likely to alter treatment effectiveness, but also difficult to shorten. Future national guidelines should take into account that not all patients have access to primaquine treatment immediately after schizonticide treatment.

The Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus (Aedes), similar to other arboviruses, first identified in Uganda in 1947. Few human cases were reported until 2007, when a Zika outbreak occurred in Yap, Micronesia, even though ZIKV activity had been reported in Africa and in Asia through virological surveillance and entomological studies. French Polynesia has recorded a large outbreak since October 2013. ⋯ They should raise awareness as to the potential for ZIKV to spread especially since this emergent disease is not well known and that some questions remain on potential reservoirs and transmission modes as well as on clinical presentations and complications. ZIKV has the potential to spread to new areas where the Aedes mosquito vector is present and could be a risk for Southern Europe. Strategies for the prevention and control of ZIKV disease should include the use of insect repellent and mosquito vector eradication.
