Obstetric Admissions to the Intensive Care Unit in a Tertiary Hospital.
A better understanding of the characteristics of obstetric patients admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) could guide where the focus of obstetric training and awareness should be directed at to reduce further maternal mortality and morbidity. ⋯ Pre-existing and acquired cardiopathies are the main reason for admission to an ICU in a developed country and have surpassed hypertensive disorders and hemorrhage. This should become a focus of obstetric care provider training.

Hysteroscopy as a valid tool for endometrial pathology in patients with postmenopausal bleeding or asymptomatic patients with a thickened endometrium: hysteroscopic and histological results.
This study compares hysteroscopic and histopathological results in postmenopausal women with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) and asymptomatic postmenopausal women with a thickened endometrium. ⋯ In postmenopausal women with a thickened endometrium with or without AUB, hysteroscopy allows for an accurate diagnosis in benign endometrial pathology. Hysteroscopy also allows directed biopsies of suspicious lesions, which is useful in malignant endometrial pathology.

Is the measurement of serum ischemia-modified albumin the best test to diagnose ovarian torsion?
The aim of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic value of serum oxidative stress marker levels (ischemia-modified albumin, IMA; malondialdehyde, MDA) and total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) levels that occur in ovarian torsion and to determine the threshold value of these markers in the diagnosis of ovarian torsion. ⋯ The elevated serum IMA levels with high sensitivity-specificity values observed in women with ovarian torsion seem to have a potential role as a serum marker in the preoperative diagnosis of ovarian torsion in emergency settings.

Review Meta AnalysisIntravenous Iron Sucrose versus Oral Iron in the Treatment of Pregnancy with Iron Deficiency Anaemia: A Systematic Review.
Intravenous iron sucrose and oral iron therapy are the main therapies for iron deficiency anaemia (IDA), but there is still a debate regarding their efficacy and especially as to which one is the best choice during pregnancy. ⋯ For pregnant women who could not tolerate the side effects of oral treatment or required a rapid replacement of iron stores, intravenous iron sucrose was associated with fewer adverse events and was more effective than regular oral iron therapy.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialEstradiol and weight are covariates of paracetamol clearance in young women.
Paracetamol clearance differs between pregnant and non-pregnant women and between women with or without specific oral contraceptives (OCs). However, an association between female sex hormones and paracetamol clearance has never been explored. ⋯ Estradiol and weight in part explain the variation in paracetamol clearance in young women.
