Observational StudyPredicting Bleeding Risk by Platelet Function Testing in Patients Undergoing Heart Surgery.
Predicting bleeding events in patients with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) represents an unmet medical need that may improve CABG outcomes. ⋯ In patients undergoing heart surgery, an ASPI test value <407 AUC*min may predict higher postoperative drainage, whereas <271 AUC*min may be linked to postoperative use of red blood cell concentrate.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyRationale, Design, and Baseline Characteristics of the EPICOR Asia Study (Long-tErm follow-uP of antithrombotic management patterns In Acute CORonary Syndrome patients in Asia).
In-hospital and postdischarge mortality for acute coronary syndromes (ACS) vary across Asia and remain generally poorer than globally. The relationship between real-life antithrombotic management patterns (AMPs) and ACS-related outcomes in Asia is unclear. ⋯ EPICOR Asia will provide information regarding clinical management and AMPs for ACS patients in Asia. Impact of AMPs on clinical outcomes, healthcare resource use, and self-reported health status both during hospitalization and up to 2 years after discharge will also be described.

Comparative StudyAssociation Between Atrial Fibrillation and Costs After Myocardial Infarction: A Community Study.
The authors sought to estimate incremental economic impact of atrial fibrillation (AF) and the timing of its onset in myocardial infarction (MI) patients. ⋯ Atrial fibrillation frequently coexists with MI and imposes incremental costs, mainly attributable to inpatient care. Timing of AF matters, as prior AF was found to be associated with higher costs than new-onset AF.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of Ranolazine in Patients With Chronic Angina in Patients With and Without Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for Acute Coronary Syndrome: Observations From the MERLIN-TIMI 36 Trial.
Ranolazine, a piperazine derivative with anti-ischemic effects, reduces the frequency of angina and improves exercise performance in patients with chronic angina. The effects of ranolazine in patients with established ischemic heart disease and chronic angina undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute coronary syndromes (ACS) is not well described. We hypothesized that ranolazine would reduce ischemic events, regardless of revascularization. ⋯ In patients with chronic angina, ranolazine reduced recurrent ischemic events, regardless of whether patients did or did not receive PCI within 30 days of a non-ST-segment ACS.

Assessment of American Heart Association's Ideal Cardiovascular Health Metrics Among Employees of a Large Healthcare Organization: The Baptist Health South Florida Employee Study.
Healthcare organizations and their employees are critical role models for healthy living in their communities. The American Heart Association (AHA) 2020 impact goal provides a national framework that can be used to track the success of employee wellness programs with a focus on improving cardiovascular (CV) health. This study aimed to assess the CV health of the employees of Baptist Health South Florida (BHSF), a large nonprofit healthcare organization. ⋯ A combination of HRAs and wellness examinations can provide useful insights into the cardiovascular health status of an employee population. Future tracking of the CV health metrics will provide critical feedback on the impact of system wide wellness efforts as well as identifying proactive programs to assist in making substantial progress toward the AHA 2020 Impact Goal.
