Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA randomized phase III trial of post-operative adjuvant oral fluoropyrimidine versus sequential paclitaxel/oral fluoropyrimidine; and UFT versus S1 for T3/T4 gastric carcinoma: the Stomach Cancer Adjuvant Multi-institutional Trial Group (Samit) Trial.
Paclitaxel, S1 and their combined sequential administration is proposed to be examined installing UFT as an active control of adjuvant chemotherapy for curatively resected T3-4 gastric cancer in a multicenter Phase III trial. The primary endpoint is disease-free survival and the secondary endpoints are incidence of adverse events, overall survival and compliance. ⋯ Abdominal CT or US is performed every 3 months in the first 2 years and every 6 months thereafter for 3 years in total to ensure recurrence data collection. This trial could appraise sequential combination therapy and efficacy of new drugs as adjuvant for gastric cancer treatment.

Ovarian cyst formation in patients using tamoxifen for breast cancer.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate patient-related parameters that determine ovarian cyst formation in women using tamoxifen for breast cancer. ⋯ Patients still having a menstrual cycle during tamoxifen had high risk (58.33%) of developing ovarian cysts. We have described an association between pre-menopausal patients using tamoxifen with high E(2) level and ovarian cyst enlargement.

Hyperfibrinogenemia is a useful predictor for lymphatic metastasis in human gastric cancer.
Although abnormal hemostasis has been described in cancer patients, the precise association between the plasma fibrinogen level and lymphatic metastasis has not been reported in a large-scale clinical study. ⋯ Our results suggest that hyperfibrinogenemia may provide favorable circumstances for cancer cells to metastasize via the lymphatic system. Preoperative plasma fibrinogen level is a useful predictor of lymphatic metastasis in intestinal-type gastric cancer.

Oxaliplatin, folinic acid and 5-fluorouracil (FOLFOX-4) combination chemotherapy as second-line treatment in advanced colorectal cancer patients with irinotecan failure: a Korean single-center experience.
This study was designed to determine the effectiveness and tolerance of oxaliplatin, folinic acid (FA) and infusional 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) (FOLFOX-4) chemotherapy when used as a second-line treatment in patients with advanced colorectal cancer for whom an irinotecan-containing regimen failed. ⋯ Second-line FOLFOX-4 is a feasible regimen with modest activity for colorectal cancer patients with irinotecan failure. Further clinical trials incorporating novel biological agents are warranted.

Identifying good prognosis group of breast cancer patients with 1-3 positive axillary nodes for adjuvant cyclophosphamide, methotrexate and 5-fluorouracil (CMF) chemotherapy.
We conducted a retrospective analysis of prognosis factors for survival in breast cancer patients with 1-3 axillary lymph node metastases and tried to identify a subset of patients with good prognosis suitable for cyclophosphamide, methotrexate and 5-fluorouracil (CMF) adjuvant chemotherapy. ⋯ Among breast cancer patients with 1-3 positive lymph nodes excellent survival rate was found in those who had favorable prognostic factors, including age >40, tumor size < or =3 cm and positive ER. Adjuvant chemotherapy with CMF regimen is optimal for these low-risk patients.
