Prevalence and risk factors for postoperative delirium in total joint arthroplasty patients: A prospective study.
The aim of this prospective study was to investigate the incidence and clinical features of delirium after total joint arthroplasty, and to establish the potential risk factors for postoperative delirium. ⋯ The incidence of postoperative delirium after total joint arthroplasty is higher than expected. Based on our findings, we suggest that the surgeons should focus on those patients who have these risk factors and ensure the appropriate management to avoid postoperative delirium.

The association between posttraumatic stress symptoms, depression, and length of hospital stay following traumatic injury.
The present study examined the relationship between posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) and depression symptoms with hospital outcome measures to explore how psychiatric factors relate to hospital length of stay (LOS). ⋯ A significant proportion of individuals who are admitted to the hospital following trauma may be at risk for depression and PTSS, which may then increase hospital LOS. As national attention turns to reducing healthcare costs, early screenings and interventions may aid in minimizing psychiatric symptoms in trauma patients, in turn reducing the cost and outcomes associated with total hospital LOS.

Review Meta AnalysisAnxiety symptoms in survivors of critical illness: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To evaluate the epidemiology of and postintensive care unit (ICU) interventions for anxiety symptoms after critical illness. ⋯ One third of ICU survivors experience anxiety symptoms that are persistent during their first year of recovery. Psychiatric symptoms during admission and memories of in-ICU delusional experiences were associated with post-ICU anxiety. Physical rehabilitation and ICU diaries merit further investigation as possible interventions.

Suicidal ideation in persons with neurological conditions: prevalence, associations and validation of the PHQ-9 for suicidal ideation.
Our primary aim was to validate the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ)-9 as a screening tool for suicidal ideation (SI). ⋯ Screening for depression and anxiety is important in view of their strong association with SI. The PHQ-9 may be considered as a screening tool for SI, although it should not be relied on solely in view of its suboptimal PPV.

Depression and anxiety symptoms in Spanish adult patients with cystic fibrosis: associations with health-related quality of life.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic disease with an impact on the quality of life. Self-reported symptoms of depression and anxiety were assessed in the Spanish cohort of the International Epidemiological Study on Depression and Anxiety in patients with CF (International Depression-Anxiety Epidemiological Study) and their relationship with health status and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) was evaluated. ⋯ The prevalence of elevated symptoms of depression and anxiety was high in Spanish adult patients with CF, and these symptoms were associated with a decreased HRQoL.
