Meta AnalysisPrevalence and Risk Factors of Emergency Department Presentations with Methamphetamine Intoxication or Dependence: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Background: Methamphetamine intoxication presentations to emergency departments (EDs) including trauma centres, general EDs and psychiatric emergency services have risen world-wide. Objectives: A review of the clinical characteristics of patients presenting to a trauma centre or ED with methamphetamine intoxication or dependence to aid development of health service policy and training for health personnel. Methods: PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL and Scopus (1990-2017) were searched. ⋯ The mean age of those who were methamphetamine positive was 28.4 years and for those methamphetamine negative cases it was 38.4 years. Conclusions: In this review, we found a higher prevalence of methamphetamine use amongst males and in the younger demographic. Targeted training programmes for frontline staff and management approaches for prompt multi-disciplinary service engagement are recommended as well as appropriate resourcing, such as mental health staff in EDs or mental health beds to accommodate this subgroup of the patient cohort.

The Administration of Pro re nata Medication by Mental Health Nurses: A Thematic Analysis.
Pro re nata (PRN) medication is medication administered by nurses as required commonly in response to a patient's symptoms or behaviour including insomnia, agitation or anxiety. There is a paucity of research around the process of PRN administration in mental health settings in Ireland and international evidence suggests inconsistencies in practices. This study aimed to explore the process of PRN medication administration by mental health nurses. ⋯ PRN medication is commonly used in mental health settings; however, this study suggests that there is potential for improvement in relation to how it is prescribed and administered. Overuse of PRN medication has been associated with increased morbidity. Mental health nurses are required to carefully consider whether PRN medication is warranted in the first instance and how its use might impact on patients.

Resilience in Caregivers of Partners With Young Onset Dementia: A Concept Analysis.
Over 200,000 Americans diagnosed with young onset dementia (YOD), dementia diagnosed prior to age 65, are cared for by family members. This can be costly to caregivers' physical and psychological health. Some adapt well to the caregiver role and are said to be resilient. Aim/Question: This paper builds on current understanding of the concept of resilience and applies this to caregivers of partners diagnosed with YOD. ⋯ Understanding the concept of resilience related to caregiving for a partner diagnosed with YOD allows for future development, measurement, and evaluation of nursing interventions. Nursing staff are in a strategic position to provide effective interventions to enhance resilience among caregivers of YOD.

Type-D Personality and Elevated Psychological Symptoms In Early Adjustment of Severe Burn Injury Patients.
Severe burn injuries are highly traumatic requiring lengthy recovery. High levels of distress in the early stages of treatment have been associated with poor physical and psychosocial recovery outcomes. Identifying traits relating to distress and personal coping styles may aid screening. ⋯ The DS-16, Davidson Trauma scale and Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale scores were analysed along with demographic and clinical data in 54 participants (40 males, 14 females). Participants who were found to have Type-D displayed significantly higher levels of psychopathology. Additionally, Type-D was found to be a significant predictor of psychological symptoms.
