Comparative StudyNoninvasive monitoring of basal cell carcinomas treated with systemic hedgehog inhibitors: pseudocysts as a sign of tumor regression.
Oral hedgehog inhibitors (HHIs) have shown significant efficacy in the treatment of basal cell carcinoma (BCC). The evaluation of tumor regression has been performed using clinical photography and radiographic scans. Noninvasive imaging techniques, such as reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) and high-definition optical coherence tomography (HD-OCT), have been shown to be valuable in detecting BCC in the skin. ⋯ Using RCM and HD-OCT, HHI-induced regression of BCC can be visualized noninvasively in the skin. The formation of pseudocysts and fibrosis were characteristic signs of BCC response to HHIs.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyComparative performance of psoriatic arthritis screening tools in patients with psoriasis in European/North American dermatology clinics.
General practitioners/dermatologists may be aware of musculoskeletal symptoms in patients with psoriasis but may have difficulty accurately detecting psoriatic arthritis (PsA). ⋯ PASQ, PEST, and ToPAS are useful screening tools that can help dermatologists identify patients without PsA and patients with possible PsA who may benefit from rheumatologist assessment.

The rapid increase in the medical use of probiotics and prebiotics in recent years has confirmed their excellent safety profile. As immune modulators, they have been used in inflammatory skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis. ⋯ Probiotics and prebiotics appear to be effective in reducing the incidence of atopic dermatitis in infants, but their role in atopic dermatitis treatment is controversial. Their role in acne, wound healing, and photoprotection is promising, but larger trials are needed before a final recommendation can be made.

What should primary care providers know about pediatric skin conditions? A modified Delphi technique for curriculum development.
There is limited access to pediatric dermatology in the United States, resulting in inadequate education and patient care. ⋯ The accepted objectives encompass management of common conditions and referral of potentially dangerous diseases and can be used to develop a pediatric dermatology curriculum for primary care providers.

Comparative StudyClassifying distinct basal cell carcinoma subtype by means of dermatoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy.
The current guidelines for the management of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) suggest a different therapeutic approach according to histopathologic subtype. Although dermatoscopic and confocal criteria of BCC have been investigated, no specific studies were performed to evaluate the distinct reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) aspects of BCC subtypes. ⋯ Dermatoscopy and confocal microscopy can reliably classify different BCC subtypes.
