There is a paucity of instruments designed to evaluate the multiple dimensions of the workplace as an educational environment for undergraduate medical students. ⋯ The Undergraduate Clinical Education Environment Measure represents a valid, reliable and feasible multidimensional instrument for evaluation of the clinical workplace as a learning environment for undergraduate medical students. Further validation in different populations using various psychometric methods is needed.

Based on personal experiences from the pediatric core clerkship of the third year of medical school, this reflexive writing piece highlights the positive impact that a preceptor had on my development as a physician-in-training. The piece draws attention to the emphasis that this preceptor places on cultivating constructive, supportive patient-doctor relationships and on pursuing a career path that is congruent with our inclinations and abilities.

The educational impact of assessment: a comparison of DOPS and MCQs.
To evaluate the impact of two different assessment formats on the approaches to learning of final year veterinary students. The relationship between approach to learning and examination performance was also investigated. ⋯ The format of DOPS has a positive influence on approaches to learning. There is a conflict for students between preparing for final examinations and preparing for clinical practice.
