Meta AnalysisCorticosteroids and Thiopurines, But Not Tumor Necrosis Factor Antagonists, are Associated With Cytomegalovirus Reactivation in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
The association between cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation and individual immunosuppressive agents in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has not been clearly defined. Therefore, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess this association. ⋯ On the basis of 16 observational studies, exposure to CS or thiopurines, but not TNF antagonists, was associated with an increased risk of CMV reactivation in IBD patients.

Appointment Wait Time, Primary Care Provider Status, and Patient Demographics are Associated With Nonattendance at Outpatient Gastroenterology Clinic.
We intended to identify the factors associated with missed appointments at a gastroenterology (GI) clinic in an academic setting. ⋯ Wait time, ethnicity, marital status, and PCP status were associated with missed GI clinic appointments. Further investigations are needed to assess the effects of intervention strategies directed at reducing appointment wait time and increasing PCP-based care.

The Association Between Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Metabolic Abnormalities in The United States Population.
Prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and rate of advanced fibrosis among individuals with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its individual metabolic abnormalities needs better understanding in the United States population. We aim to study these by using a large United States population database, the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III). ⋯ Prevalence of NAFLD and rate of advanced fibrosis are significantly high among individuals with metabolic abnormalities.

Clinical Profile and Natural Course in a Large Cohort of Patients With Hypertriglyceridemia and Pancreatitis.
To report the clinical profile and natural course in a large series of patients with hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) and acute pancreatitis (AP). ⋯ Patients with HTG-related pancreatitis have a high prevalence of secondary risk factors. Frequent recurrences in them are usually due to poor control of secondary factors or TG. Serum TG ≥1000 mg/dL increases the risk of local complications. A subset can have or develop chronic pancreatitis.
