We assess survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest after community-wide implementation of 2005 American Heart Association guidelines. ⋯ In the context of a community-wide focus on resuscitation, the sequential implementation of 2005 American Heart Association guidelines for compressions, ventilations, and induced hypothermia significantly improved survival after cardiac arrest. Further study is required to clarify the relative contribution of each intervention to improved survival outcomes.

Our objective is to investigate to what extent amiodarone is sequestered by intravenously administered lipid emulsion in plasma of pigs and whether the lipid emulsion inhibits amiodarone-induced hypotension. ⋯ Amiodarone was sequestered to a great extent by the intravenously administered lipids in plasma, which completely prevented the decrease in arterial blood pressure caused by amiodarone infusion. Further studies are needed to evaluate the clinical usefulness of intravenous lipid emulsion as an antidote in amiodarone overdoses.
