Use of Adhesive Tape to Facilitate Optimal Mask Positioning and Use in the Emergency Department: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
We hypothesize that placing a piece of surgical tape at the bridge of the nose over the mask will improve proper mask use among emergency department patients by creating a physical deterrent to mask removal. ⋯ Applying a piece of tape to a mask on the bridge of the nose affords a simple, low-cost, and low-risk solution that resulted in 100% of patients wearing their masks correctly at a 60-minute reevaluation.

Comparison of Nebulized Ketamine at Three Different Dosing Regimens for Treating Painful Conditions in the Emergency Department: A Prospective, Randomized, Double-Blind Clinical Trial.
We aimed to assess and compare the analgesic efficacies and adverse effects of ketamine administered through a breath-actuated nebulizer at 3 different dosing regimens for emergency department patients presenting with acute and chronic painful conditions. ⋯ We found no difference between all 3 doses of ketamine administered through breath-actuated nebulizer for short-term treatment of moderate to severe pain in the emergency department.

Rapid Agitation Control With Ketamine in the Emergency Department: A Blinded, Randomized Controlled Trial.
We hypothesized that the use of intramuscular ketamine would result in a clinically relevant shorter time to target sedation. ⋯ In ED patients with severe agitation, intramuscular ketamine provided significantly shorter time to adequate sedation than a combination of intramuscular midazolam and haloperidol.

Maximizing the Morning Commute: A Randomized Trial Assessing the Effect of Driving on Podcast Knowledge Acquisition and Retention.
Emergency medicine residents use podcasts as part of their learning process, often listening while driving. It is unclear how driving while listening to a podcast affects knowledge acquisition and retention. This study evaluated the knowledge gained from listening to podcasts while driving compared to that gained from undistracted listening. ⋯ Driving while listening to a podcast does not meaningfully affect knowledge acquisition or retention when compared with undistracted podcast listening among emergency medicine residents.

Sucralfate as an Adjunct to Analgesia to Improve Oral Intake in Children With Infectious Oral Ulcers: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial.
We hypothesized that sucralfate along with oral analgesics (acetaminophen or ibuprofen) administered in the emergency department leads to a clinically significant improvement in oral intake in children with acute infectious oral ulcers. ⋯ Sucralfate as an adjunct to oral analgesics was not superior to placebo in improving oral intake in children with acute oral infectious ulcers.
