Case ReportsNon-infectious epiglottitis in children: two cases report.
Two young children who suffered from thermal injuries to the epiglottis after swallowing corrosive agent and hot water respectively. Findings, clinically and radiologically, in both children were similar to acute infectious epiglottitis. Both recovered quickly with close observation and parenteral antibiotics. Although Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) is the major pathogen of epiglottitis, in areas with low incidence of Hib infection and high vaccination rates, non-infectious epiglottic swelling should be considered first.

Case ReportsOssifying fibroma arising in the right ethmoid sinus and nasal cavity.
Ossifying fibroma, a rare tumor entity, is a well-demarcated benign fibro-osseous tumor composed of bone, fibrous tissue and cementum. It is commonly found in the mandible, but also found in the maxilla and paranasal sinuses. ⋯ With the advent of sinonasal endoscopy in the mid 1980s, and subsequent advances in surgical techniques, endoscopic management of the fibrous-osseous lesions has become possible. In the current case study, we report a successful endoscopic removal of a huge ossifying fibroma located in the right ethmoid sinus and nasal cavity.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialRelief of posttonsillectomy pain with low-dose tramadol given at induction of anesthesia in children.
Pain is major problem regarding quality of life in children undergoing tonsillectomy. Preemptive analgesia by medicine given before commencement of surgery is a new way recommended for relief of pain during and after operation. The purpose in this study to evaluate preemptive efficacy and safety of lower dose of tramadol, which was recently introduced in children undergoing tonsillectomy. ⋯ Tramadol in lower doses (0.5-1 mg kg(-1)) was an efficient preemptive analgesic that could be used at induction of anesthesia in adenotonsillectomies of children for providing both good analgesia during operation as supplementation to propofol anesthesia and postoperative analgesia in only early period.

Case ReportsAirway obstruction caused by a congenital epiglottic cyst.
Congenital epiglottic cyst is a rare affliction with potential for airway obstruction. A newborn boy was referred to our department for evaluation of respiratory distress and inspiratory stridor 7 h after birth. ⋯ Immediate endoscopic surgery was performed 20 h after birth to completely remove the lesion. Two days after surgery, the patient resumed normal breathing pattern and showed no further episodes of stridor or airway obstruction.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialAirway foreign bodies in childhood.
To define clinical spectrum of airway foreign body aspiration in children and to evaluate the outcome and complications. ⋯ Pediatricians must be conscious to check for foreign body aspiration who have sudden onset of cough and wheezing episode. In any suspicion, a bronchoscopy should be considered even if there is not any positive history for aspiration. Children should be followed up after bronchoscopy for complications.
