Transverse sinus stenting for idiopathic intracranial hypertension: a review of 52 patients and of model predictions.
Transverse sinus stenosis is common in patients with IIH. While the role of transverse sinus stenosis in IIH pathogenesis remains controversial, modeling studies suggest that stent placement within a transverse sinus stenosis with a significant pressure gradient should decrease cerebral venous pressure, improve CSF resorption in the venous system, and thereby reduce intracranial (CSF) pressure, improving the symptoms of IIH and reducing papilledema. We aimed to determine if IIH could be reliably treated by stent placement in transverse sinus stenosis. ⋯ These findings indicate a role for transverse sinus stent placement in the management of selected patients with IIH.

ReviewHigh-resolution MR neurography of diffuse peripheral nerve lesions.
High-resolution MR imaging of peripheral nerves is becoming more common and practical with the increasing availability of 3T magnets. There are multiple reports of MR imaging of peripheral nerves in compression and entrapment neuropathies. ⋯ We attempted to highlight the salient imaging features of myriad diffuse peripheral nerve disorders and imaging techniques for MRN. Using clinical and pathologically proved relevant examples, we present the MRN appearance of various types of diffuse peripheral nerve lesions, such as traumatic, inflammatory, infectious, hereditary, radiation-induced, neoplastic, and tumor variants.

Joubert syndrome and related disorders: spectrum of neuroimaging findings in 75 patients.
VH and MTS are the neuroimaging hallmarks of JSRD. We aimed to look at the full spectrum of neuroimaging findings in JSRD and reviewed the MR imaging of 75 patients with JSRD, including 13 siblings and 4 patients with OFD VI. All patients had VH and enlargement of the fourth ventricle. ⋯ The wide neuroimaging spectrum in our patients supports the heterogeneity of JSRD. Neuroimaging differences in siblings represent intrafamilial heterogeneity. Due to the absence of a correlation with genotype, neuroimaging findings are of limited value in classifying patients with JSRD.

Impact of brain tumor location on morbidity and mortality: a retrospective functional MR imaging study.
fMRI is increasingly used in neurosurgery to preoperatively identify areas of eloquent cortex. Our study evaluated the efficacy of clinical fMRI by analyzing the relationship between the distance from the tumor border to the area of functional activation (LAD) and patient pre- and postoperative morbidity and mortality. ⋯ These findings indicate that tumors may affect language and motor function differently depending on tumor LAD. Overall, the data support the use of fMRI as a tool to evaluate patient prognosis and are directly applicable to neurosurgical planning.

Differential diagnosis of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus from other dementias using diffusion tensor imaging.
Because DTI can provide good markers of white matter pathology, it could be useful in differentiating white matter changes of INPH from those of other dementias. The aim of this study was, by using DTI, to compare the characteristic white matter changes in INPH with those in AD, subcortical vascular dementia, and healthy control subjects. ⋯ Patients with shunt-responsive INPH showed higher FA in the posterior limb of the internal capsule compared with healthy controls and those in other groups of dementia that was reversible with shunt surgery. With this parameter, shunt-responsive INPH could be distinguished from AD, subcortical vascular dementia, and healthy conditions with high diagnostic accuracy.
