Histogram analysis versus region of interest analysis of dynamic susceptibility contrast perfusion MR imaging data in the grading of cerebral gliomas.
Histogram analysis can be applied to dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) perfusion MR imaging datasets and can be as effective as traditional region-of-interest (ROI) measurements of relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV), an operator-dependent method. We compare the routine ROI method with histogram analysis in the grading of glial neoplasms. ⋯ rCBVT histogram analysis is as effective as rCBVmax analysis in the correlation with glioma grade. Inexperienced operators may obtain perfusion metrics using histogram analyses that are comparable with those obtained by experienced operators using ROI analysis.

Lower cervical nerve root block using CT fluoroscopy in patients with large body habitus: another benefit of the swimmer's position.
We describe a method of performing lower cervical nerve root block (CNRB) with CT fluoroscopy in patients with large body habitus using the swimmer's position. This approach reduces image noise with acceptable visualization of vital structures and improved foraminal/root access. Anticipated use of the swimmer's position coupled with minimally modified radiation exposure parameters can limit radiation dose to operator/patient and reduce procedure time to match that of CNRB using CT fluoroscopy in typical patients.

Vertebroplasty for osteoporotic fractures with spinal canal compromise.
Percutaneous vertebroplasty can aggravate spinal canal narrowing, especially in patients with preoperative retropulsion. The purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in spinal canal dimension during percutaneous vertebroplasty for osteoporotic fractures with retropulsion. ⋯ Vertebroplasty can be performed safely in patients with spinal canal compromise. This procedure can reduce pain, increase vertebral body height, and decrease wedge angle without worsening of retropulsion.

Effect of training and experience on qualitative and quantitative CT perfusion data.
To evaluate interobserver reliability of obtaining CT perfusion (CTP) data for qualitative identification of perfusion abnormality and quantitative assessment through regions-of-interest (ROIs) placement. ⋯ Overall, quantitative differences seen in this study would not necessarily affect quality of interpretation of ischemia/infarct region or global cortical perfusion. Therefore, obtaining qualitative and quantitative CTP data can reliably be performed in the clinical setting among observers with various levels of skill and experience when using a uniform and standard technique.

Review Case ReportsSpinal arteriovenous malformations associated with Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome: a literature search and report of two cases.
Patients with Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome present with venous varices, cutaneous capillary malformations, and tissue hypertrophy, usually involving an extremity. A small but important subset also harbors arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) of the spine. ⋯ These cases and our review of the literature emphasize the importance of screening the spine for AVMs. In addition, it is also important to investigate for the presence of multiple spinal AVMs.
