Review Case ReportsBacillus cereus meningoencephalitis in preterm infants: neuroimaging characteristics.
Meningoencephalitis can severely damage the developing brain. Preterms are more prone for nosocomial infections with pathogens other than Group B streptococci and Escherichia coli. In this report we focus on the deleterious clinical course and imaging characteristics of proven Bacillus cereus meningoencephalitis. ⋯ Knowledge of this paradigm of acquired brain injury may help to better understand the natural course of these severe neonatal infections.

Clinical TrialTreatment and follow-up of 22 unruptured wide-necked intracranial aneurysms of the internal carotid artery with Onyx HD 500.
The purpose of this study was to demonstrate endovascular treatment of wide-necked aneurysms of the internal carotid artery with the liquid embolic agent Onyx HD 500. ⋯ The endovascular treatment of wide-necked, large or giant ICA aneurysms with Onyx HD 500 is a treatment option in these selected cases. The benefit is a primary high and stable occlusion rate and good clinical outcome. ICA occlusion caused by Onyx migration in the parent artery is a typical problem, with a benign clinical course in this series.

An acute intracranial embolus may be associated with a hyperdense artery sign on CT, related to acute thrombus within the affected artery, a phenomenon that is well known and has been extensively documented. We present an unusual case of a middle cerebral artery territory acute infarct with a hypodense artery on CT. The Hounsfield unit attenuation of the embolic lesion was fat density. CT angiography and MR imaging confirmed the fatty lesion to be within the middle cerebral artery.

Case ReportsSemilobar holoprosencephaly seen with diffusion tensor imaging and fiber tracking.
A neonate with semilobar holoprosencephaly was studied with diffusion tensor imaging and fiber tracking. Fiber tracking showed that the frontooccipital fasciculi were in continuity across the ventral midline, interposed between fused caudate and dysplastic fornices. ⋯ There was a posterior commissural white matter bundle representing a callosal splenium. Diffusion tensor imaging and fiber tracking revealed white matter structures not apparent on routine imaging sequences, which are in agreement with pathologic descriptions of the holoprosencephalic brain.

Prediction of treatment response in head and neck cancer by magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
Poor treatment outcome remains high in patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the head and neck region. Treatment of head and neck cancer could be improved and perhaps standardized if reliable markers for tumor progression and poor prognosis could be developed. MR spectroscopy has been used previously to differentiate between malignant and adjacent normal specimen in these cancers. This study explores the capability of MR spectroscopy in providing an indication of the aggressiveness of a tumor and its response to treatment. ⋯ These preliminary results suggest that MR spectroscopy has the potential to contribute to an accurate and early prediction of tumor behavior and response to treatment in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck region.
