Multicenter StudyA multicenter study of 705 ruptured intracranial aneurysms treated with Guglielmi detachable coils.
The long-term durability of Guglielmi detachable coil (GDC) embolization of cerebral aneurysms is still unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stability of anatomic occlusion of aneurysms treated with GDCs and assess the rate of recanalization and re-treatment. ⋯ Our multicenter study confirms the stability of aneurysm embolization with GDC, with only 4.7% of aneurysms requiring re-treatment.

Angiographic assessment of pial collaterals as a prognostic indicator following intra-arterial thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke.
This study examines whether anatomic extent of pial collateral formation documented on angiography during acute thromboembolic stroke predicts clinical outcome and infarct volume following intra-arterial thrombolysis, compared with other predictive factors. ⋯ Evaluation of pial collateral formation before thrombolytic treatment can predict infarct volume and clinical outcome for patients with acute stroke undergoing thrombolysis independent of other predictive factors. Thrombolytic treatment appears to have a greater clinical impact in those patients with better pial collateral formation.

Percutaneous vertebroplasty for metastatic involvement of the axis.
Percutaneous vertebroplasty in the upper cervical spine is a challenging procedure, and little is known about its therapeutic outcome. The purpose of this study was to assess the risks and benefits of percutaneous vertebroplasty for metastatic involvement of the axis. ⋯ Percutaneous vertebroplasty of C2 metastases by an antero-lateral approach is an effective option in the treatment strategy of patients with metastases to C2. Nevertheless, it is a challenging procedure and may carry regional and even intracranial risks due to the proximity to the vertebral artery.

Case ReportsAbciximab in patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms.
Experience with intravenous abciximab to manage thromboembolism during treatment of ruptured intracranial aneurysms is limited. We present our experience in 13 patients. ⋯ Abciximab completely or partially treated thromboembolic complications arising during coiling of ruptured aneurysms. Further coiling should be performed with extreme caution and needs to be decided on a patient-by-patient basis.

Clinical TrialOutcomes of carotid angioplasty and stenting for radiation-associated stenosis.
In light of their high surgical risk, carotid angioplasty and stent placement may be preferred in patients with radiation-associated carotid stenosis. The purpose of this study was to determine the procedural complication rate, patency, and clinical outcomes after carotid angioplasty and stent placement in this small group of high-risk patients. ⋯ Angioplasty and stent placement have low rates of complications and restenosis in the treatment of radiation-associated carotid occlusive disease.
