Multicenter StudyMulticenter study of device-associated infection rates in hospitals of Mongolia: Findings of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC).
To report the results of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC) multicenter study conducted in Mongolia from September 2013-March 2015. ⋯ Device-associated health care-associated infection rates and most device use ratios in our Mongolian hospitals' ICUs are higher than the CDC-NSHN and INICC rates.

Comparative StudyPhysiologic and fit factor profiles of N95 and P100 filtering facepiece respirators for use in hot, humid environments.
To determine if hot, humid ambient conditions impact filtering facepiece respirators' (FFRs') fit, and to evaluate differences in physiologic and subjective responses between N95 FFRs and P100 FFRs. ⋯ After 1 hour of exercise in hot, humid ambient conditions, P100 FFRs retained better fit than N95 FFRs, without additional physiologic or subjective impact. Wearing FFRs under these conditions does not add to the body's thermophysiologic or perceptual burdens.

Infection control strategies that successfully controlled an outbreak of Mycobacterium abscessus at a cystic fibrosis center.
Mycobacterium abscessus infection in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) can result in accelerated clinical decline and the potential for direct or indirect transmission between patients has been recently demonstrated. Data on the outcomes of M abscessus outbreaks and the efficacy of specific infection control procedures in patients with CF remain limited. This study provides follow-up from an outbreak of pulmonary M abscessus in our center, highlighting outcomes and strategies that appear to have prevented further spread of the organism. ⋯ Direct or indirect patient-to-patient transmission of M abscessus is a threat in the CF population. A multifaceted infection control strategy based on CF guidelines was effective in halting transmission in our center.

Terminal decontamination of the Royal Free London's high-level isolation unit after a case of Ebola virus disease using hydrogen peroxide vapor.
We report the decontamination of the high-level isolation unit at the Royal Free London after the discharge of a patient with Ebola virus disease, who was repatriated from West Africa. Hydrogen peroxide vapor (HPV) was used to decontaminate the patient care isolators and the rooms housing them. HPV decontamination was completed without incident and allowed the unit to be returned to service more quickly than the previous protocol of using formaldehyde.

Epidemiology of bloodstream infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus at a tertiary care hospital in New York.
In the United States, bloodstream infections (BSIs) are predominated by Staphylococcus aureus. The proportion of community-acquired methicillin-resistant S aureus (MRSA) BSI is on the rise. The goal of this study is to explore the epidemiology of BSI caused by S aureus within Staten Island, New York. ⋯ Most infections were community acquired. The presence of a central venous catheter constituted a robust independent risk factor for MRSA BSI. Patients with MRSA BSI suffered worse outcomes than those with MSSA BSI.
