Antioxidant status and oxidative stress in primary open angle glaucoma and pseudoexfoliative glaucoma.
The aim of this study was to establish the antioxidant status and oxidative stress in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (PEG). ⋯ The findings of the present study are potentially of significance and add to the growing body of evidence for oxidative stress in POAG and PEG. Decreased antioxidant defense and increased oxidative stress system may play an important role in the pathogenesis of POAG and PEG.

Inhibition effect of tetrandrine on haze formation after Epi-LASIK surgery in rabbits.
To observe the inhibitory effect of tetrandrine on haze formation after Epi-LASIK surgery in rabbits. ⋯ Like FML, Tet could inhibit haze formation in rabbits after Epi-LASIK surgery, possible through TGF-β(2)-collagen-III pathway.

Anti-TNF-alpha treatment: a possible promoter in endogenous uveitis? observational report on six patients: occurrence of uveitis following etanercept treatment.
TNF-alpha inhibitory drugs are widely used with beneficial effect in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, such as juvenile idiopathic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Due to the complex immune regulatory function of TNF-alpha, induction of inflammation in several organs including the eye, skin, and gastrointestinal tract has been reported. This report describes the occurrence of intraocular inflammation after treatment with the TNF-alpha antagonist etanercept. ⋯ Our observations may indicate that immunodysregulatory and even proinflammatory effects of etanercept are of relevance in clinical practice. Further randomized controlled clinical trials are necessary to investigate possible side effects of anti-TNF therapy using etanercept and infliximab.

Randomized Controlled TrialSub-Tenon's ropivacaine block for pain relief after primary strabismus surgery.
Pain is the main cause of patient distress/dissatisfaction after strabismus surgery. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of sub-Tenon's block with ropivacaine at the end of strabismus surgery on post-operative pain. ⋯ Sub-Tenon's block with ropivacaine 0.2% at the completion of outpatient primary strabismus surgery with fixed sutures under GA reduces pain 12-16 hr post-operatively and analgesia requirements 4-23 hr post-operatively.

A siRNA targeting vascular endothelial growth factor-A inhibiting experimental corneal neovascularization.
This study was designed to investigate whether synthetic small interference RNA (siRNA) targeting VEGF-A could inhibit mouse corneal neovascularization or not. ⋯ VEGF-A siRNA could potentially serve as an important therapeutic alternative in the management against unwanted angiogenesis including corneal neovascularization.
