Thiol/Disulfide Homeostasis in Patients with Central Serous Chorioretinopathy.
To evaluate dynamic thiol/disulfide homeostasis in patients with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (cCSC). ⋯ Disulfide/thiol ratio was significantly greater in cCSC patients relative to healthy control subjects. Our results suggest that the oxidative process is involved in the pathogenesis of the cCSC.

The Wound Healing Effects of Adiponectin Eye Drops after Corneal Alkali Burn.
To investigate the wound healing effect of adiponectin eye drops following corneal alkali burn. ⋯ Topical adiponectin (both 0.001% and 0.01%) increased epithelial migration and improved clinical signs and inflammation on the ocular surface after alkali burn, suggesting that adiponectin can promote wound healing in the cornea.

Randomized Controlled TrialAnalgesic and Sedative Effects of Dezocine and Midazolam During Vitrectomy.
To evaluate the analgesic and sedative effectiveness of dezocine and midazolam in vitrectomy. ⋯ Combinatory use of dezocine and midazolam in addition to local anesthetic in retrobulbar nerve block can help relief pain and anxiety during vitrectomy and reduce PONV.

Low-Level Blast Exposure Increases Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) Expression in the Rat Cornea.
Blast-related ocular injuries sustained by military personnel have led to rigorous efforts to elucidate the effects of blast exposure on neurosensory function. Recent studies have provided some insight into cognitive and visual deficits sustained following blast exposure; however, limited data are available on the effects of blast on pain and inflammatory processes. Investigation of these secondary effects of blast exposure is necessary to fully comprehend the complex pathophysiology of blast-related injuries. The overall purpose of this study is to determine the effects of single and repeated blast exposure on pain and inflammatory mediators in ocular tissues. ⋯ Single and repeated blast exposure resulted in increased expression of TRPV1, CGRP, SP, and ET-1 as well as neutrophil infiltration. Collectively, these findings provide novel insight into the activation of pain and inflammation signaling mediators following blast exposure.

Effect of Keratocyte Supernatant on Epithelial Cell Migration and Proliferation After Corneal Crosslinking (CXL).
To evaluate the effect of keratocyte supernatant (harvesting time, riboflavin concentration and UV-A-light illumination) on migration and proliferation of human corneal epithelial cells (HCECs) by CXL, in vitro. ⋯ Harvesting time, riboflavin concentration and UV-A-light illumination of normal and keratoconus keratocyte cultures has no impact on proliferation of HCECs, in the short term. However, 24 hours harvesting time (both for normal and keratoconus keratocytes) increases and UVA-light-illumination of keratoconus keratocyte cultures decreases HCEC migration.
