The purpose of our investigation was to compare quantitative T2 relaxation time measurement evaluation of lumbar intervertebral discs with morphological grading in young to middle-aged patients with low back pain, using a standardized region-of-interest evaluation approach. ⋯ Our standardized method of region-specific quantitative T2 relaxation time evaluation seems to be able to characterize different degrees of disc degeneration quantitatively. The reproducibility of our ROI measurements is sufficient to encourage the use of this method in future investigations, particularly for longitudinal studies.

Dual Energy CT lung perfusion imaging--correlation with SPECT/CT.
Aims were (1) to determine the diagnostic accuracy of Dual Energy CT (DECT) in the detection of perfusion defects and (2) to evaluate the potential of DECT to improve the sensitivity for PE. ⋯ DECT is able to identify pulmonary perfusion defects with good accuracy. This technique may potentially enhance the diagnostic accuracy in the assessment of PE.

A comparative analysis of double inversion recovery TFE and TSE sequences on carotid artery wall imaging.
To analyze the characteristics of double inversion recovery (DIR) turbo field echo (TFE) and turbo spin echo (TSE) sequences and explore the value of double inversion recovery TFE sequence on carotid artery wall imaging. ⋯ DIR TFE sequence has short scanning time and high spatial resolution. DIR TFE sequence can be used as the preferred sequence for screening carotid atherosclerotic plaque compared with DIR TSE sequence.

The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical application value of right ventricle (RV) function measured by 64 multi-detector row CT (MDCT) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cor pulmonale. ⋯ MDCT can accurately quantify RV function and MM. The RVEF and RV MM measured by MDCT correlate well with the severity of disease as determined by PFT in patients with COPD and cor pulmonale. The assessment of right ventricular function is clinically important for evaluation of the severity of COPD, which may provide an objective basis for therapeutic strategy.

MRI and PET/CT of patients with bone metastases from breast carcinoma.
3.0Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) was compared with combined 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET/CT) in patients with suspected bone metastases from breast cancer. A prospective clinical study was performed in 13 female breast cancer patients (mean age 61years; range 45-85 years). The spine was imaged in the sagittal plane with T1-weighted (T1), short tau inversion recovery (STIR), and T2-weighted fat-saturated (T2) sequences. ⋯ T1 had the highest sensitivity (98%) but rather low specificity (77%), but with the addition of STIR and DWI, the specificity increased to 95%. The additional metastases detected with MRI most likely represented postherapeutic residual scars without active tumour. In conclusion, 3.0Tesla MRI with T1, STIR, and DWI is useful for the clinical evaluation of bone metastases from breast cancer and compares well to PET/CT.
