Prostate cancer detection with 3-T MRI: comparison of diffusion-weighted and T2-weighted imaging.
To compare the clinical value of diffusion-weighted (DW) and T2-weighted (T2W) imaging in detecting prostate cancer using a 3-Tesla (3T) magnetic resonance (MR) system. ⋯ With a 3T MR system, the performance of DW imaging in detecting prostate cancer was better than that of T2W imaging. DW imaging appears to be a robust and reliable method to examine the whole prostate within an acceptable scan time in clinical settings.

Pathological changes of the peripheral pulmonary arteries induce pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Aim of this study was to quantitatively assess the effect of PAH on pulmonary perfusion by 3D-MR-perfusion techniques and to compare findings to healthy controls. Furthermore, quantitative perfusion data were correlated with invasive pressure measurements. ⋯ The only measurable effect of PAH on pulmonary perfusion is a prolonging of the MTT. There is only a moderate linear correlation of invasive mPAP with PBV and MTT.

This study aims to determine the types and prevalence rates of anatomic variations of the hepatic veins, portal vein, inferior vena cava and renal veins, and to establish statistical correlations between various anomalies and frequency differences between male and female using multi-detector row computed tomography (CT). ⋯ The prevalence of abdominal vein variations is high, and routine abdominal CT demonstrates these abnormalities very well. The data suggest that hepatic vein variants and multiple right renal veins are more frequent in women than in men, and that hepatic vein variation is correlated with portal vein variation.

CT-guided bone biopsy: Initial experience with a commercially available hand held Black and Decker drill.
To describe the use of a simple commercially available Black and Decker hand based drill in performing CT-guided bone biopsies. ⋯ CT-guided bone biopsy using a hand held commercial drill has a technically high success rate with minimal complications.

MR flow measurements for assessment of the pulmonary, systemic and bronchosystemic circulation: impact of different ECG gating methods and breathing schema.
Different ECG gating techniques are available for MR phase-contrast (PC) flow measurements. Until now no study has reported the impact of different ECG gating techniques on quantitative flow parameters. The goal was to evaluate the impact of the gating method and the breathing schema on the pulmonary, systemic and bronchosystemic circulation. ⋯ The type of gating has a significant impact on flow measurements. Therefore, it is important to use the same ECG gating method, especially for follow-up examinations. Retrospective ECG gated free breathing measurements allow for the most precise assessment of the bronchosystemic blood flow and should be used in clinical routine.
