Validity of gradient-echo three-dimensional delayed gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of hip joint cartilage: a histologically controlled study.
To validate gradient-echo three-dimensional (3D) delayed gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of cartilage (dGEMRIC) by means of histological analyses in the assessment of hip joint cartilage. ⋯ Gradient-echo dGEMRIC is reliable while offering the unique features of high image resolution and 3D biochemically sensitive MRI for the assessment of early cartilage degeneration.

Locally advanced rectal cancer: value of ADC mapping in prediction of tumor response to radiochemotherapy.
To evaluate the diagnostic performance of quantitative apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurements, in the assessment of the therapeutic response to chemo-radiation therapy (CRT) in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer, by analyzing post CRT values of ADC, in relation to tumor regression grade (TRG) obtained by histopathologic evaluation of the rectal specimen. ⋯ Post-CRT ADC measurements are reliable and reproducible and may be used as a non-invasive tool to evaluate response to therapy as post-CRT ADC values and ΔADC presented good diagnostic performance to select responder patients.

The purpose of this study was to test whether the acquisition of positron emission tomography (PET) does interfere with simultaneous diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) in an integrated whole-body PET/MRI system. ⋯ The simultaneous acquisition of DWI and PET on an integrated PET/MRI system does not impact ADC quantification of normal and tumor tissue and does not alter SNR. This knowledge provides a basis for the use of simultaneous multiparametric PET/MRI comprising DWI in diagnostic imaging and quantitative tumor therapy monitoring using repeated ADC measurements.

To investigate the potential of noise-based tube current reduction method with iterative reconstruction to reduce radiation exposure while achieving consistent image quality in coronary CT angiography (CCTA). ⋯ Adequate image quality could be maintained at a desired and consistent noise level with overall 14% dose reduction using noise-based tube current reduction method. The use of iterative reconstruction further achieved approximately 40% reduction in effective dose.

To evaluate the impact on image quality of three different image reconstruction techniques in the cervicothoracic region: model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR), adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR), and filtered back projection (FBP). ⋯ MBIR significantly improves image noise and streak artifacts of the cervicothoracic region over ASIR and FBP. MBIR is expected to enhance the value of CT examinations for areas where image noise and streak artifacts are problematic.
