Traumatic dislocation of the hip is uncommon in the pediatric population. Concentric reduction is usually achieved by closed means. Open reduction may be needed if there is femoral head fracture, incarcerated fragment, or incomplete reduction due to soft tissue entrapment. We present a series of 10 patients who sustained a posterior hip dislocation or subluxation with associated osteochondral avulsion of the posterior labrum. During surgery they were noted to have a labral injury pattern not previously recognized. Such treatment was dictated by postreduction advanced imaging, which revealed a consistent acetabular "fleck" sign indicative of this labral injury, which has not been previously described in literature. ⋯ IV, retrospective study.

Resident Versus Attending Surgeons in Achieving and Maintaining Fracture Reduction in Pediatric Distal Radius Fractures.
Distal third forearm fractures are one of the most common orthopaedic injuries in the pediatric population with a reported risk of redisplacement in the range of up to a third following initial reduction. The aims of this study were to determine whether fracture redisplacement and adequacy of cast molding were associated with surgeon seniority in the treatment of displaced pediatric distal third radius fractures that required manipulation under anesthesia. ⋯ Level I-randomized-controlled trial.

Type III B and C open tibia fractures in children pose a challenge to the orthopaedic surgeon. Limb salvage is the initial goal for the majority of patients, but managing soft-tissue defects and bone loss can be a challenge. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of circular external fixation in the management of these injuries. ⋯ Level IV.

Open Versus Arthroscopic Reduction for Tibial Eminence Fracture Fixation in Children.
Stiffness is a common complication following surgically treated tibial eminence fractures. Fractures can be addressed with either open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation (ARIF). We sought to evaluate the effects of surgical approach and other modifiable perioperative factors on postoperative arthrofibrosis. We hypothesized that ARIF would result in a lower risk of arthrofibrosis. ⋯ Level III-therapeutic study.
