Case ReportsEpidural idiopathic sterile pyogranulomatous inflammation causing spinal cord compressive injury in five Miniature Dachshunds.
To characterize the clinical signs, diagnostic and surgical findings, and outcome of dogs with idiopathic sterile pyogranulomatous inflammation (ISP) of epidural fat causing spinal cord compression. ⋯ Epidural ISP should be considered as a possible cause of thoracolumbar myelopathy for Miniature Dachshunds.

Comparison of locking and conventional screws for maintenance of tibial plateau positioning and biomechanical stability after locking tibial plateau leveling osteotomy plate fixation.
To compare locking screws with conventional screws inserted in the tibial plateau fragment for reduction and stability of the construct after tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO), using a locking TPLO plate. ⋯ These results suggest that conventional screws and careful contouring of the TPLO plate can provide comparable mechanical stability to fixation with locking screws in the tibial plateau under load-sharing conditions, but potentially at the expense of osteotomy reduction.

Use of a four pin and methylmethacrylate fixation in L7 and the iliac body to stabilize lumbosacral fracture-luxations: a clinical and anatomic study.
To describe the clinical outcome of a 4 pin lumbosacral fixation technique for lumbosacral fracture-luxations, and to refine placement technique for iliac pins based on canine cadaver studies. ⋯ Lumbosacral fracture-luxations can be stabilized with 4 pin and bone cement fixation in the lumbar vertebrae and iliac body, using 29 and 20 degrees as guidelines for the craniocaudal and lateromedial pin insertion angles in the ilium.

To compare gravimetric and colorimetric methods of quantifying surgical blood loss, and to determine if there is a correlation between preoperative hemostatic tests (buccal mucosa bleeding time [BMBT] and intraoperative blood loss). ⋯ Estimation of blood loss using a gravimetric method is accurate and applicable in the clinical setting and provides surgeons with a simple and objective tool to evaluate intraoperative blood loss.

Randomized Controlled TrialHemodynamic effects of interpleural lidocaine and bupivacaine combination in anesthetized dogs with and without an open pericardium.
To identify dysrhythmias and hemodynamic changes after lidocaine and bupivacaine infusion into the interpleural space with an open pericardium. ⋯ Intrapleural administration of lidocaine and bupivacaine at a therapeutic dose can be used safely in healthy dogs with a pericardectomy.
