Respiratory reflexes in response to upper-airway administration of sevoflurane and isoflurane in anesthetized, spontaneously breathing dogs.
To evaluate the respiratory effects occurring during administration of sevoflurane or isoflurane to the upper airway in dogs. ⋯ Isoflurane induces greater reflex inhibition of breathing than does sevoflurane when the anesthetic is inhaled into the upper airway at concentrations used for mask induction.

Screw fixation in lag fashion of equine cadaveric metacarpal and metatarsal condylar bone specimens: a biomechanical comparison of shaft and cortex screws.
To compare acute fixation stability and insertion effort of cortex bone screws with and without a shaft inserted in lag fashion in equine metacarpal (metatarsal, MC(T)III) bone. ⋯ Cortex bone screws with a shaft inserted in lag fashion should be considered for the fixation of equine MC(T)III condylar fractures.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialInhaled carbon monoxide concentration during halothane or isoflurane anesthesia in horses.
The purpose of this study was to assess carbon monoxide (CO) exposure during equine anesthesia with either halothane (H) or isoflurane (I) delivered in a circle rebreathing system. ⋯ Levels of CO observed during the administration of either H or I for 90 minutes to horses were not clinically significant.

Total intravenous anesthesia in greyhounds: pharmacokinetics of propofol and fentanyl--a preliminary study.
To evaluate concomitant propofol and fentanyl infusions as an anesthetic regime, in Greyhounds. ⋯ In Greyhounds which were not undergoing any surgical stimulation, total intravenous anesthesia maintained with propofol and fentanyl infusions induced satisfactory anesthesia, provided atropine was given to counteract bradycardia. Despite some unsatisfactory recoveries the technique is worth investigating further for clinical cases, in this breed and in mixed breed dogs.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialWarming with a forced air warming blanket minimizes anesthetic-induced hypothermia in cats.
To evaluate the effectiveness of a forced-air warming blanket (FAWB) in minimizing anesthetic-induced hypothermia in cats, and to examine the relationship between esophageal and other estimates of body temperature during skin surface warming. ⋯ Forced air warming blankets may prove successful in minimizing anesthetic-induced hypothermia in cats.
