Acute myocardial infarction during pregnancy successfully treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention.
We report a case of a 40 year old pregnant woman who presented with an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) complicated by ventricular fibrillation. She underwent successful primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). With a tendency towards increased maternal age in developed countries, AMI during pregnancy may become a more frequent occurrence.

Ventricular fibrillation due to severe mitral valve prolapse.
Mitral valve prolapse usually has a good prognosis. However, an association between mitral valve prolapse and atrial and ventricular arrhythmias has been described. This case presents a patient who was admitted after cardiac resuscitation due to ventricular fibrillation. A severe mitral valve prolapse was the only pathology found.

Evaluation of the combined utility of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and cardiac troponin T (cTnT) for risk stratification in normotensive patients with acute pulmonary embolism. The changing patterns of BNP and cTnT levels during the initial management of pulmonary embolism and their correlation with clinical outcome were the focus of this study. ⋯ Combined use of BNP and cTnT may be useful in risk stratification of normotensive patients with acute pulmonary embolism. Patients with increased BNP and cTnT are at risk for adverse outcome. Future studies in larger numbers of patients are needed to confirm the usefulness of biomarkers in the clinical management of individual patients.
