Heart failure (HF) incidence is rising worldwide and HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) represents nearly half of all cases. Treatment options are still limited in HFpEF in comparison to HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). ⋯ GDF-15 was useful to detect prevalent HF in addition to NT-proBNP and was elevated in HFrEF and HFpEF, whereas NT-proBNP was higher in HFrEF than in HFpEF. All biomarkers were useful to predict mortality in the general population. The index of ((CRP+GDF-15s+sST2)/NT-proBNP) was able to discriminate HFpEF from HFrEF.

To study if the coexistence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in patients diagnosed with acute heart failure (AHF) at the emergency department (ED) has an impact on short- and long-term outcomes. ⋯ In patients attending the ED for AHF, the coexistence of COPD is only associated with an increased risk of short-term ED revisit, but not prolonged hospitalization and short- or long-term mortality.

Comparative Study Observational Study
Rivaroxaban versus standard anticoagulation for symptomatic venous thromboembolism (REMOTEV observational study): Analysis of 6-month outcomes.
This study aimed to provide safety and efficacy data of rivaroxaban in routine patient care in a non-selected symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE) population. ⋯ In REMOTEV 6-month outcomes are consistent with the findings of the phase 3 randomized trials and post-marketing data, with low rates of major bleeding and symptomatic recurrent VTE.

Review Meta Analysis
The impact of short-term exposure to air pollutants on the onset of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Acute exposure to outdoor air pollution was considered to be associated with the incidence of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). But the relation between specific air pollutants and OHCA remains controversial. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to quantitatively assess the acute effects of air pollutants, including particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and ozone (O3) on OHCA onset. ⋯ The current evidence confirmed the associations between short-term exposure to PM2.5, PM10 and O3 and a high risk of OHCA, with the strongest association being observed for PM2.5.

Sacubritil∗valsartan (Entresto, Novartis, still commonly referred to as LCZ696) is a combination drug described as a new class of dual-acting angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNi). This combination drug has been successfully studied in patients with heart failure with both preserved (HFpEF) and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). In this review, the evidences in patients with HFpEF and HFrEF are summarized, including the results of more recent studies.
