To develop and validate a multi-parametric practical score to predict the probability of survival to hospital admission of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) victim by using Utstein Style-based variables. ⋯ UB-ROSC score is a novel score that predicts the probability of survival to hospital admission of an OHCA victim. UB-ROSC shall help in setting realistic expectations about sustained ROSC achievement during resuscitation manoeuvres.

Postoperative atrial fibrillation (PoAF) is a common complication after cardiac surgery. A pre-existing atrial substrate appears to be important in postoperative development of dysrhythmia, but its preoperative estimation is challenging. We tested the hypothesis that a combination of clinical predictors, noninvasive surrogate markers for atrial fibrosis defining abnormal left atrial (LA) mechanics, and biomarkers of collagen turnover is superior to clinical predictors alone in identifying patients at-risk for PoAF. ⋯ In patients without a previous history of AF, using age and biomarkers of collagen synthesis and regulation, a noninvasive tool was developed to identify those at risk for new-onset PoAF.

Regional and global longitudinal strain (RLS-GLS) are considered reliable indexes of myocardial viability in chronic ischemic patients and prediction of left ventricular (LV) functional recovery after acute myocardial infarction (MI) with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). We tested in the present study whether RLS and GLS could also identify transmural extent of myocardial scar and predict LV functional recovery and remodeling in patients with reduced LVEF after acute MI. ⋯ In patients with reduced LVEF after acute MI, RLS and GLS allow: (1) identification of transmural extent of myocardial scar and (2) predict LV global functional recovery and remodeling at 8-month follow-up.

Parameters predicting the second-generation cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation (CB-PVI) durability of each individual PV have not been investigated. ⋯ The durability of the CB-PVI was high even with a single short freeze strategy. The parameters predicting the PVI durability differed among the 4 PVs, suggesting that best freeze criterion should be considered separately for each of the 4 PVs.

Randomized controlled trials or observational studies showed that the use of public-access automated external defibrillator (AED) was effective for patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). However, it is unclear whether public-access AED use is effective for all patients with OHCA irrespective of first documented rhythm. We aimed to evaluate the effect of public-access AED use for OHCA patients considering first documented rhythm (shockable or non-shockable) in public locations. ⋯ Public-access AED pad application was associated with better outcome among patients with OHCA of medical origin in public locations irrespective of first documented rhythm.
